New Stuff This Week… 1/28/13
Circle II Circle
Season Will Fall
Eagle Rock Entertainment
http://www.circle2circle.net/
These guys have always been solid, sort of picking up where Savatage left (Zak Stevens at least) Just a classic metal thing, great guitar solos, vocals, and their new drummer is none other than Madison native Adam Sagan (Into Eternity, Halcyon, Infernaeon)
Funeral For A Friend
Conduit
The End Records

Hardcore-ish with metal stuff, and some metalcore type stuff going on too. Catchy riffs, and being hardcore and all… the songs are quick and to the point.
Maelstrom
It Was Predestined
Itchy Metal Entertainment

Thrashy and melodic… just a 3 song EP… but it seems pretty cool, vocals are mostly shouted , some growls and screams… lots of cool guitar work too… some brutal drumming in parts too.
4 Shades of me
Pitch Black Records

Sort of a melodic death thing, female fronted… hard to top Arch Enemy (i’m a fanboy) but it’s hard not to compare, as they both have brutal female vocals! This isn’t quite on par with Arch Enemy, but it does have some catchy riffs, a bit of melodic death, some thrash and some just straight ahead metal… oh and some brutal stuff too. Good stuff.
The Divinity of Purpose
Razor & Tie

What’s this? New Hatebreed? What do you think it sounds like? If you guess “Hatebreed” You win! As the “AC/DC” of hardcore, you know what you’re getting and yup, you get Hatebreed with another good album. Some actual melodic guitars layered in here, but with the same catchy hardcore stuff that’s happening.

A lot of comparisons to Isis with this band/album. I can safely say I’m not a fan of Isis or this genre of I guess what is called “post metal” now. Kind of long, drawn out sludgey, doomy atmospheric, and just not seeming to get to a point. A lot of people like this stuff and it is “metal” so you’ll hear some of this on the Mosh Pit.
Deathlike
Prosthetic

A sort of down tempo rock type thing. One reviewer calls them “rock n roll and blues” Nothing really heavy here at all, almost a 70’s rock thing, or a doomy classic rock.
The Bronx
IV
ATO
http://thebronxxx.com/bx4/
A bit of a more uptempo hardcore punk thing. These guys have been around for a while now… Catchier, more accessible type stuff… they’ve been on the Warped Tour a few times
Gloria Morti
Lateral Constraint
Metal Blade
http://www.gloriamorti.com/
An extreme blackened death band from Finland. This band is not fucking around. I’d say it’s closest comparison is Behemoth. Just a wall of brutal metal rife with brutal riffs, off the hook drumming and brutal vocals
Zombified
Carnage Slaughter and Death
Metal Blade

Brutal death metal… old school, from Belfast Ireland! Some cool cookie monster vocals and some terrifying screams too.
Edge of Attack
Spread The Metal Records (Asher PR)
http://www.edgeofattack.com/
A mix of some classic thrash and power metal… female fronted, and the thrashy/power metal vocals are both represented well. Clean vox with some edge to them in the heavier parts
Tides of War
Self Release (Asher PR)

Melodic death/thrash metal. Thrashy, with a hint of metalcore, but not really going there. The metalcore is just the basis of the melodic guitar stuff any maybe emo singy stuff isn’t here, it’s all metal and in your face. Good stuff.
