New stuff this week… 1/18/10

Mutiny Within
Mutiny Within
Roadrunner
40:30 – 11 Tracks
We saw these guys a month or so opening for a show in the Rave… they wowed us pretty good then, so this album was anticipated… they have the power metal thing going on, some technical death metal stuff, keyboards, a whole gamut of good metal genres mixed all together.  Any fan of good metal will be able to appreciate something on this release… and we’ll be playing it a bit I guess too.    http://www.myspace.com/mutinywithin

AM Conspiracy
AM Conspiracy
Burnhill Union
54:07 – 14 Tracks
This is that band with the old Drowning Pool singer… and this starts off  a bit more heavy than any of that DP stuff.   Overall though, it still is more on the active/hard rock side of things… reminds me a bit of Godsmack… for the most part though, this is pretty tame and more material for another station.   (we’ll probably play the 1st track though) http://www.myspace.com/amconspiracy

Armageddon
Embrace The Mystery / Three  (Reissues)
Century Media
2 albums, lots of tracks
You may have heard of this band… it’s a bit of a side project of Christopher Amott (from Arch Enemy fame)… “Embrace The Mystery” was originally released in 2000, and is kind of a fast/power metal thrashy effort… Chris does lead vocals  and sounds great too and both albums feature Daniel Erlandsson on drums…  The next album “Three” was from 2002 and is a bit more melodic and power metally.  http://www.myspace.com/armageddonsweden

Charred Walls Of The Damned
Charred Walls Of The Damned
Metal Blade
1 track so far
So, Richard Christy got a band together… Ripper Owens sings, Steve DiGiorgio plays bass and Jason Suecof plays guitar and produces… this just has awesome written all over it…. just hearing the one track that’s been released so far is pretty cool… It’s heavy, thrashy and doesn’t really screw around…. a bit melodic and classic metal in parts, and balls out thrash in others.  Another well rounded metal release for the week.  http://www.myspace.com/charredwallsofthedamned

Freya
All Hail The End
Victory
50:27 – 13 Tracks
I’ve been conditioned to think that Victory Records bands will all be metalcore and screamy with breakdowns and all that… well, you’d be right a lot of the time, but this Freya band has matured a bit… it’s a little screamy, but yet brutal and a smidge melodic in parts… it’s got some good layers of different metal stuff going on (seems to be a theme this week).  And it’s a bit catchy too!   http://www.myspace.com/freya

The Resurrection Sorrow
Hour Of The Wolf
Midnight Dreams
46:11 – 10 Tracks
This is kind of traditional metal, a bit of a sludgey southern tinge to it too, you know, kind of like crowbar, or some more run of the mill CoC stuff.  Not bad…  http://www.myspace.com/resurrectionsorrow

Sons of Azrael
Scouting The Boneyard
Metal Blade
31:44 – 10 Tracks
This is  a death metal band from Buffalo!  They’re a bit death metal, but with many a black metal thing going on.  It’s not quite as dark as a typical black metal album… I guess Buffalo isn’t quite as bad as Finland, right?  It’s got some good abrasive almost black metal vocals with a traditional-ish death/blackened death metal meaty music backing…  http://www.myspace.com/sonsofazrael

Ihsahn
After
Candlelight
53:04 – 8 Tracks
Another new album from the former Emperor frontman… to me, this album seems a bit more heavy, and off the hook… I almost like to think of it as a black metal Mr. Bungle… it’s got a lot of things going on, and goes all out heavy, then not quite as much… it’s almost like a Strapping Young Lad type of thing going on. http://www.myspace.com/ihsahnmusic
