New stuff this week… 1/7/08

Hey!

Well, we’re back with new stuff for the new year.  The metal record industry virtually shuts down for December every year.   Therefore, we don’t have new stuff coming in, and we let loose on the shows in December to make them just fun-play-what-we want types of things.   This week, new stuff is in, trade magazines are back at it, and the emails from industry folks have resumed.   This first full show of 2008 will be a mix of new stuff and a recap of 2007.   Mike and I have compiled some of our favorite releases from the year and will be playing them throughout tonight’s show.

On to the new stuff that’s going for adds to rotation this week…

Annihilator
Metal
SPV
55:01 – 10 Tracks
Nice crisp metal from Annihilator once again.  Jeff Waters has a revolving door of band members, but he has a vision and his vision is good metal music.  This album features prog drum god Mike Mangini, many special guitarist guests such as Jeff Loomis, Michael Amott, Alexi Laiho and many other respected metal guitarists from the present!   The songs are catchy, thrashy, and all fun to listen to.   This was released last April to the rest of the world,  so I’m not sure why it’s just getting released now in the US.  Weird contract?   Either way, it’s cool stuff and you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Pagan’s Mind
God’s Equation
Diversity Media
11 Tracks
These guys have been around a while.  It’s prog-power metal.  Some songs are typical singy halford-esque vocals, others have some balls and chunk.  They are similar to Symphony X and Dream Theater, production is tight, and it’s nice to start off the year with something of this genre.  You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Polkadot Cadaver
Purgatory Dance Party
Rotten Records
69:58 – 12 Tracks
Well, this is three of the guys from Dog Fashion Disco, the singer, one of the guitarists and drummer.  Stylistically, it’s just about the same as DFD.   It’s a bit Mr. Bungle, some Faith No More, a little Marilyn Manson, and some just plain ol cool hard rock catchy metal stuff.   We’ve played DFD in the past, recently some of their albums never made it to the air, as they weren’t distributed very well.  This new release though is kinda cool and “out there”  You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Various Artists
WWE Raw Greatest Hits 15th Anniversary
Columbia
52:38 – 17 Tracks
I’m not a big  wrestling fan, but this appears to be a CD of different wrestlers’ entrance music or theme songs or something.   Since it’s a light week for new stuff, you may hear something from here… While it’s not too metal, I guess wrestling is “metal”
