New stuff this week… 2/18/08

Paul Sabu
Strange Messiah
Locomotive
41:03 – 10 Tracks
Listening to this makes me think I’ve got a good ol Whitesnake CD on. I googled this guy and apparently he’s like some king of AOR music. Well, he’s done a lot of producing and writing and background stuff for well known artists such as Alice Cooper, Kiss Members and he even “discovered” Shania Twain. Well this album is what I said in the first sentence, very Whitesnake sounding. Plain straightahead hard rock stuff. It’s not too bad, and with the lack of other new stuff this week, you’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Hate Eternal
Fury and Flames
Metal Blade
40:00 – 10 Tracks
This is some crazy sick technical-ish brutal death metal.  Over the top brutality!  Erik Rutan has become a legend of late, with his work in Morbid Angel and Ripping Corpse along with all the stuff he’s been producing lately…  This album is just sick and brutal and what extreme death metal should be.  You’ll definitely hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Dead To Fall
Are You Serious?
Victory
39:18 – 11 Tracks
After a little bit of an intro track, this just rips into metal brutality.   I guess this is what metalcore is becoming… more brutal, less emo… you know, as we like to call brutalcore.  This CD is fairly complex and technical in parts.   It even fringes on catchy.  The dual vocal styles work well together, some cookie monster and just plain metalcore abrasive screamgrowls.  You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

ASG
Win Us Over
Volcom
45:56 – 13 Tracks
This is pretty much a straightforward hard rock album, leaning into the stoner metal genre.  The songs are just cool enough to be semi-catchy, and have you tapping your feet and headbanging in parts.  The guitars are dirty enough to keep this playable on the Mosh Pit too.  Stoner metal fans unite!

Kingdom of Sorrow
Kingdom of Sorrow
Relapse
Jamey Jasta and Kirk Windstein team up for some southern soundin’ metal.  It sounds pretty much how you would assume it sounds.  Very “Down-ish” with Jamey Jasta doing vocals sounding a lot like Phil Anselmo.  We like down, this sounds kinda like down and has some respectable members of the metal family in it… of course you’ll hear it on the Mosh Pit!

Mystic Prophecy
Satanic Curses
Locomotive
48:12 – 12 Tracks
We’ve played this CD a bit on the Mosh Pit already, as Mike bought it and brought it in.  We just got a copy of it sent to us from the label, therefore you have a lil write up on it!   This is the kind of power metal that should be around more often.  It’s more musically thrash, but with more of the heavy power/prog metal stuff going on.  The vocals have an edge to them, not just screamy high voice stuff.   You’ll hear more of this on the Mosh Pit!
