New Stuff This Week…7/7/14
Cannibal Corpse
Sadistic Embodiment – Single
Metal Blade Records
wow, starts off like and old Slayer, then just gets all brutal and blast beats kick in with Corpsegrinder barking out his vocals… great stuff as usual!
68
In Humor and Sadness
(eOne)
A little punk, a little alternative and a bit metal… and some grungy Nirvana sounding stuff and stoner metal.
THE HELL
Groovehammer
Prosthetic
A raw, almost djenty chuggy metal thing with a bit of groove, vocals are a some raw yelling and growly shout stuff.
WINGS DENIED
Mirrors for a Prince
(Self-released)
A bit metal, a bit prog (porcupine tree flavor prog), a bit metal-core with some of the emo-ish sounding vocals and catchy two-step type music.
IN FLAMES
Rusted Nail Sampler
Epic
Only three songs so far, but it definitely has the In Flames sound, well, the newer more modern In Flames sound. Vocals are actually mostly clean-ish, music is pretty heavy, and the vocals going clean and melodic in parts, shouted in others, and a growl here and there work all well together.
Judas Priest
Redeemer Of Souls
Epic Records
Opening track, Dragonaut sounds like classic priest…. well, so do the others too. Straight to the point classic metal songs going on here. I’m glad they didn’t retire!
Origin
Omnipresent
Nuclear Blast
Fast, Brutal, In your face death metal.
Doomsday Mourning
Negligent Acts Of Calculated Recklessness
To The Point Records
Gives me a Meshuggah vibe, chuggy, catchy, heavy.
VINTERSORG
Naturbål
Napalm Records
Blackened folk metal. Thrashy blackened metal with that folky feeling, with a bit of that bouncy folk stuff, but more in the lines of symphonic folk sounds too.
MORTALS
Cursed to See the Future
Relapse Records
Classic sounding black metal (with good production) Long tracks, noisy, yet cold sounding riffs, some blast beats, scream/shouted out vocals, and maybe a hint of some death metal stuff too.
Goatwhore
Constricting Rage of the Merciless
Metal Blade Records
These guys are about what all that is great about metal these days. Blackened thrashy riff laden metal. Catchy yet brutal songs with vocals that just fit. While they’re not changing much between their last few albums, what they do is great and continues to be great. And how can you not like a band named Goatwhore?
Motorhead
Lost Woman Blues “Single”
UDR GMBH
Seems like this is actually a blues song… A laid back chilled out blues-rock song with Lemmy being Lemmy. This will be a good lighter swayer at the live shows…
Mutilation Rites
Harbinger
Prosthetic
Black metal with a bit of melody and 100% brutality. Vocals are a little low in the mix, but alternate from screams and growls. These guys have been around a while, but just a bit under my radar.
Lawrence’s Creation
Drop Zone
Horror Pain Gore Death
Instrumental metal… kind of a traditional metal thing, with lots of noodling, catchy stuff, proggy stuff, and well, standard metal stuff. Production is a little tinny, but otherwise it’s cool to have something without vocals once in a while!
Monuments
The Amanuensis
Century Media
Proggy metalcore stuff with a djent thing going on.
The Defiant
The Defiant (self titled debut)
Unsigned
A punky hardcore metal thing
Unbeing
Raptus (EP)
BLK COQ Music
Proggy jazzy djent stuff…. pretty cool actually!
BASTION
Vremya borby
Der Schwarze Tod
Heavy brutal folk metal. (mostly because of the little flute sound going on, otherwise, it’d be brutal blackend death metal) I think it’s pretty cool to have something as weird as a flute going on over brutal technical metal… some clean vox, some deathy brutal vox too, but all pretty neat stuff.
BJARM
Imminence
Fono
Russian symphonic black/death metal. Good production, decent sound, a bit of a melodic death thing going on too.
Harangue
By The Strength Of The Mighty Atlas
Self-Released
Screamed vocals, sort of technical metalcore… their PR things says “for fans of Coalesc, Botch and Narrows”
OVERPOWER
Greatness Within
Geenger Records
Some standard heavy metal stuff, shouted/growled vocals, catchy riffs.
