New Stuff This Week… 7/28/14

Heaven & Earth
Frontiers Records
Probably not for the show, but still great to see these guys still making music.  The new singer does sound just like Jon Anderson and the band, while not churning out hits… it’s a different time and they are still true to their prog rock roots.

Wretched
Cannibal
Victory Records
Technical, thrashy and brutal… so they got the melodic death, death/metalcore stuff going on, it’s catchy and brutal and headbangin’.

Stagger
Liquid Date
Zenergy Entertainment
Basic thrashy metal… actually a bit like Pantera in style and heaviness but with a bit of death metal stuff going on too.

Eluveitie
Origins
Nuclear Blast USA
I only have a single so far, but this song is basically fe-metal mixed with folk metal.  Basic song stuff, actually bit like Lacuna Coil with some flutey stuff going on.  I’ll be happy to hear more when I get the full length.

EMBALMER (US)
There Was Blood Everywhere (MLP)
Hells Headbangers
Basic brutal death metal, this is a compilation reissue of stuff from 1987

DOG FASHION DISCO
Sweet Nothings
Rotten Records
After calling it quits, and then a few reunions and the whole Polkadot Cadaver thing, they’re back with an album!  They have that same quirky metal/funky/fun sound going on.  And I think fans will be happy with this.  I think it’s pretty cool and catchy.

Dysangelium
Leviaxxis (Demo 2014)
W.T.C.Productions
Black metal with an old school brutal thing going on. Just a 3 song EP, but there’s some promise here… Kind of catchy, brutal, cold black metal stuff at its core and really just toeing the Black Metal genre line.

AOV
Act Of Violence
Inverse
Heavy, thrashy, a bit catchy… growly vocals, but not death metal, more, just a modern metal with a groove (again, another Pantera comparison this week!)

Phobiatic
Fragments of Flagrancy
Self Released
Catchy and technical brutal death metal

H5N1
A Time Of No Tomorrows
Self Released
Basic death metal with some really really cookie monster vocals.

Taatsi
Amidst the Trees CD
Forever Plagued
Melodic black metal, but with some icky production to make it a bit more atmospheric, the mix is more above midrange, so it’s treble heavy… if that makes sense.

Mutilation Process
Flesh Eaters EP
Horror Pain Gore Death
Brutal blackened death metal.  just two songs, but they are just your basic brutal death metal with a hint of black metal
