New Stuff This Week…10/13/14

AMARANTHE
Massive Addictive
Spinefarm
Female fronted metal, a bit of a modern metal feel, some heavier parts when alternating to harsh male vocals.  music has a bouncy electronic backing (a little like Marilyn Manson in parts)

WOLFBORNE
In The Beginning
ILS
Some standard metal, a little bit of a bluesy sound pretty catchy, mostly clean vocals

KMFDM
Our Tialunme Will Come
Metropolis
Electronic stuff with a little bit of some guitar work… probably more for Something Wonderful than the Mosh Pit.

Exodus
Blood In, Blood Out
Nuclear Blast USA
So, starting off a track with some almost hiphop sounding stuff then really just getting into some classic Exodus riffs and drumming.  and Steve Souza is Back! So yeah, if you liked Exodus before, with whatever singer they have, this is a great new release that I’m sure you’ll like.

Pitch Black Forecast
So Low
Ferocious Records
Heavy stuff with a little grit leaning into that wall of sound Strapping Young Lad style of metal.  Which is interesting, because, hey guess what, Gene Hoglan is the drummer, and it’s fronted by Mushroomhead frontman Jason Popson (J Mann).

Like Monroe
Things We Thing, But Never Speak
eOne Entertainment
Modern metal-mall core.  A good brutal extreme metal foundation, but then swerving into singy emo core chorus type stuff.

Starkill
Virus Of The Mind
Century Media Records
Catchy epic melodic death metal but with a pinch of power metal or dragonforce-like guitar stuff going on.

Riot Horse
This Is Who We Are
Metalville Records
I feel like I’m listening to what Led Zeppelin might sound like if they made an album today. Bluesy hard rock

GORMATHON
Following The Beast
Napalm Records
Melodic death along the lines of Amon Amarth, but with a bit more on the folk metal side.

Drone
Drone
Metalville Records
Just kind of some standard metal, it’s pretty catchy, some heavier screamy stuff, other sung parts, a little bit of stoner metal, some power metal, some standard “metal metal” a cool mix of all sorts of stuff.

Scar Symmetry
The Singularity (Phase I – Neohumanity)
Nuclear Blast Records
These guys have always had a bit more of an electronic or melodic tint to good melodic death metal.  Now, they still have that going on, the harsh parts seem a bit more standard death metal and the melodic stuff even seems a bit more clean, almost 90’s AOR or hard rock.. this even gives the back n forth more contrast, which actually has a bit of a retro feel, but something cool and not typical of what you hear from melodic death these days.  This is the first album in a trilogy of concepet albums.

Zelorage
So You’re A Mess
Inverse Records
Nu metal sounding stuff

Heroes Of Vallentor
The Warriors Path Part I
Inverse Records
Sounds like these guys want to be a viking Manowar.  Decent metal with a little bit of an Iron Maiden feel too.  Vocally it’s a bit more like

INNSMOUTH
THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH
CRIME RECORDS
Fairly standard death metal with a bit of a melodic laid back groove.

My Own Ghost
Love Kills
Inverse
Female fronted hard rock/metal.  Modern commercial metal music sound.

Necrowretch
Even Death May Die 7″
Century Media
Black metal with no fucking around. (just a single and a slayer cover tho)

MASTERCASTLE
Enfer [De La Bibliothèque Nationale]
Scarlet Records
Female fronted metal.  I’d say this is more or less standard power metal

Riwen
Riwen (3 songs)
Indie Recordings
Blackened grindy punked up thrash. Fairly catchy and a little bit raw.

Posthum
The Black Northern Ritual
Indie Recordings
Classic black metal sound, but more of an overall melodic black metal thing, great catchy riffs and old school mixed with some new school stuff.

MIDNIGHT SIN
Sex First
Bakerteam Records
90’s sounding hard rock.

ATRUM TEMPESTAS
Néant
Nordavind Records
A doomy down tempo black metal thing

THE LURKING CORPSES
Workin’ For the Devil (CD, LP)
Hells Headbangers
A heavy thrash, a bit raw on the production, but vocals are growly, but also sung and over the top screamy too. Seems to be a bit on the “fun” side too.

PIG DESTROYER
Mass & Volume (NA Promo)
Relapse Records
This is a 2 song EP recorded back in 2007.  Not quite as fast and grindy as they normally do.  These are a couple of sludgy doom tracks.

INTER ARMA
The Cavern (NA Promo)
Relapse Records
Well, this is one track, a 45 minute track and it’s a bit of a long dreary doomy sludgey thing that moves along…kind of slow… there are some moments of heavy stuff, but overall it’s a big long “post metal” thing.

Occultation
Silence in the Ancestral House
Invictus Productions
70’s throw back metal with a bit of a creepy King Diamond  meets sabbath vibe.

Hang The Bastard
Sex In The Seventh Circle
SOAR / Century Media
Cvan there be such a thing as Stoner black metal?  I’m not sure but this is about as close as you’ll get.  Big meaty stoner metal music with some shrieky black metal style vocals.

EDEN CIRCUS
Marula (Rock)
Lifeforce
Basic rock, maybe a bit of a proggy hard rock along the lines of Porcupine Tree.

OCTOBER 31
Bury the Hatchet (CD, LP)
Hells Headbangers
Nice to have something that’s just good old school Thrash, with no messing around or anything fancy.  Just

Nuclear Perversion
Desolation Rituals tape
Iron Bonehead
Raw blackened grindy death metal with an in-your-face wall of sound production.  P

THAW
Earth Ground
Witching Hour Productions
Doomy melodic black metal, downtempo stuff

CIRCLE OF INDIFFERENCE
SHADOWS OF LIGHT
RECORDS OF INDIFFERENCE
Thrashy metal, production makes it sound a bit “over produced”  Growly vocals, catchy riffs, cool solos.

HORTUS ANIMAE
Secular Music
Flicknife Records
Thrashy Prog metal, death in parts, thrashy in parts, catchy, brutal, and melodic too. cool stuff.

Dead Samaritan
The Devil Tunes
Self-Relased
Basically thrash musically, vocals are a bit brutal/scream growled so that gives it a heaver feeling.

RATED X
Radio Sampler
Frontiers Music
Hard rock super group type thing with Joe Lynn Turner, Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin and Karl Cochran.  Sounds like some cool basic hard rock, but really with the distinct sound of each member too.  Just 3 songs so far, but pretty cool.

ANCKORA
Extreme
Irond Records
Electronicized russian metal

Nuclearhammer
Serpentine Hermetic Lucifer LP/CD
Nuclear War Now! Productions
Old school basic black metal, blast beats, a mooshy wall of guitars and drums.

JUPITERIAN
Archaic
Self-Relased
Doomy sludge

OFDRYKKJA
A Life Worth Losing
AVANTGARDE MUSIC
WTF.  Some ambient drony black metal sound with yoko-ono-like vocals on one track, people talking, blah.
