New stuff this week 6/12/06

Here is what are the “new releases” this week. Also, below are not so much reviews, but just some general comments. I give many props to people that write GOOD reviews of stuff. It’s not easy, not to mention, I’m a bit lazy on this topic too. So here ya go…

Stonesour
“Metal Sampler”
Roadrunner
11:05 – 3 Tracks
Picture heavy riffage, music, of course, not quite intense as slipknot, but with slipknot vocals. This “metal sampler” is I’m sure what are the heaviest of the tracks on this hard rock band’s release. It’s a bit along the lines of newest Soil, and well, I’m sure it’ll go over well. Stone Sour is more popular than I ever would have thought, then again, they are good musicians, so they might as well put out some good accessible hard rock! You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit… because it’s like, new and why not, it’s a METAL sampler!

Underoath
“Define The Great Line” Sampler
Tooth & Nail
7:30 – 2 Tracks
Hey, it’s new stuff from Underoath. Some good melodic music, but with the emo singy stuff mixed in with angry growly stuff. More of the same… I’ll probably play this just because it’s new, but yawwwnnn.

Gwar
“School’s Out” Single
DRT
3:23 – 1 Track
It’s produced by Devin Townsend. At first glimpse, you’d think it was an Alice Cooper cover, then you think, naww… why would they release a single and it’s just a cover? That would be just dumb! Guess what!? It’s the cover of Alice Cooper’s song. *twirls finger* It is Gwar alright, but really… how about some real new stuff? There’s a little talking by Oderus in here a bit that puts the Gwar stamp on it… but, what can you say, it’s new Gwar, you’ll probably hear this!

Cellador
Enter Deception
Metal Blade
44:25 – 8 Tracks
Cool, an actual full album release! The recommended if you like tag on the bio sheet says “Dragonforce mixed with Iron Maiden!!!!” And, that it is. It seems more Dragonforce than Iron Maiden… but the playing is fast and furious with some nice high screamy power metal vocals. It’s catchy and I’m pretty sure you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

The Acacia Strain
The Dead Walk
Prosthetic
32:02 – 11 Tracks
It starts off and my first impression is it has that bendy distorted guitar like Meshuggah. But after that, they seem to take their own course… which is good! Good dirty growls with a wall of sludgey metal sound behind it. One peek into the lyrics shows me that these guys are pissed off. This is something a bit different than everything… It’s metal-sludge-core? It’s cool, and you’ll hear it on the Mosh Pit!

Zao
The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here
Ferret
37:57 – 11 Tracks
Another fairly unique band in the selections this week. These guys started off doing their own thing, and they continue with this release. It features backwards printed words on the case and liner notes to start off. The production sounds pretty muddy and demo-ey. The music is alright, there is some crazy guitar work here and there, the vocals range all over the place, screachy, singy, growly… you name it. I just wish the production would be a bit more clean. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit though!

Dirty Rig
Rock Did It
Escapi
34:46 – 10 Tracks
Good ‘ol Dirty Rig. Fun lovin hard rock cd release here. Pretty decent, not really “metal” but some of these songs get pretty heavy, and they are fun! “Suck It,” “Rock Did It,” “Drunk Again” and “Hot Porno Star” are some of the songs we’re dealing with here. Reminiscent of Jackyl without the chainsaw… it’s alright stuff. If there’s time, you might hear it on the mosh pit.

Merrimack
Of Entropy and Life Denial
Moribund
56:05 – 11 Tracks
Here’s some good ‘ol fashioned black metal. You know, the best kind, unintelligible lyrics, some crazy sick playing and a band logo that is illegible. It’s pretty good, I like this new influx of new black metal, after a bit of a drought. You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit.

New stuff this week 6/5/06

Early preview this week due to the Vader/Kataklysm show down at Big E’s.

(hed)P.E.
Back To Base
Suburban Noize
43:06 – 13 Tracks
The title says it all. While it is sort of urban and poppy in some parts, it does get going and rock in others. I saw these guys live a few years ago, and was not happy, but someone (the book) said they’d be good, and they were! So I’ll give these guys a chance from now on. Another reason to check out a band live if you have any doubts about them, or are on the fence. This CD is alright, you may hear it on the Mosh Pit.

Kampfar
Kvass
Napalm
46:00 – 6 Tracks
Norwegian black metal. They follow the line of a typical scandanavian black metal sound. Nothing bad here, just a plodding along a-okay black metal sound. You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit, as there isn’t much traditional black metal out these days!

Satyricon
Now, Diabolical
Century Media
48:00 – 9 Tracks
Contrasting to the Kampfar above, this is more along the new wave of black metal, not as creepy scary, better production, etc. Again, it’s all Satyr with a drummer. It isn’t terribly complex, just good ol meat and potatoes black metal. It’s got pretty good sound, and still sounds evil enough to be “cool.” You will hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Nights Like These
The Faithless
Victory
26:41 – 11 Tracks
At first listen, it’s a chaotic hardcore-ish Bongzilla-ey sound. It has a bit of that machine-gun metalcore sun with some pinch harmonic stuff on guitars to break up the monotony. It will then lighten up into some more plodding breaks, where an emo band would normally start their sing-along. Not these guys, growls all the way! It’s alright, I personally don’t care for it much, but I think it deserves some airplay on the ‘Pit!

Dragonforce
Inhuman Rampage
Roadrunner
56:08 – 8 Tracks
Newest release from these veteran Power-Prog-metallers is on Roadrunner Records. Bash Roadrunner all you want, but they seem to be the trendsetters lately. I have a feeling this release will increase awareness for power-prog metal and it’ll be one of the next big popular metal-genres. This album is all Dragonforce, fast-paced sing-aloney metal, quick drums and guitar works and fills. If you are a fan of prog-power metal, you’ll like this, and if you aren’t maybe this is the chance you should take to get started! You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Thine Eyes Bleed
In The Wake of Separation
The End
Hey, go figure, a band is on a big tour (Thine Eyes Bleed on the Slayer tour) and their label decides to re-issue their 2005 album. I guess I could think of worse things. I liked this CD on the first release. This version has a bonus track. It’s heavy, in your face, and does not fuck around one bit. It’s not really metal-core, it’s just plain ol balls out metal. Tom Araya’s little brother is the bass player, and he should be proud. They should fit well on the Slayer tour. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

New stuff this week 5/29/06

It’s a bit of a slow week due to the holiday, so there’s only three new things to review this week…

Eidolon
The Parallel Otherworld
InsideOut
68:01 – 10 Tracks
Of course you may know this bad as the band that the new guys in Megadeth are from. They are a quality power metal band. There’s some crazy guitar playing on here. The vocals are a bit like Judas Priest. A good solid release, and as I am not a thesaurus, I’ll just say the same thing I say about a lot of stuff… nothing really groundbreaking here. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Celtic Frost
Monotheist
Century Media
68:22 – 11 Tracks
I have to be honest… I don’t know much about Celtic Frost, just that they are metal pioneers, and I started to get into metal after their heyday. So, they have a new album. It’s pretty good. It does sound “classic” and that’s what I would expect from a band that’s been around as long as these guys. Why change, right? It stays heavy, raw and in your face and doomy as well. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Skinless

Trample The Weak, Hurdle The Dead
Relapse
36:42 – 8 Tracks
Brutal death metal! I’ve liked Skinless since seeing them at Milwaukee Metalfest a few years ago. The thing I did like about them, was the singer wasn’t just a cookie monster guy that would just stand there and growl, he was more like a hardcore kinda guy. Well, he is not in the band, but the music is still brutal and that’s what’s important. The new vocals sound just fine too. The production is a little raw, but it doesn’t take away from anything. It’s good solid brutal death metal! You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

New stuff this week 5/22/06

Dissection
Reinkaos
The End
43:04 – 11 Tracks
It’s been 11 years since we’ve heard from these guys. This new album sounds crisp, well put together and a no-nonsense black/melodic black metal album. It’s not crazy intense like a Dimmu Borgir, but it’s more like a Dark Tranquillity or At the Gates. This is great stuff, and you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Cataract
Kingdom
Metal Blade
41:26 – 11 Tracks
Mike and I both liked the last Cataract album. At the time, they were doing something that wasn’t so common… metal with a hardcore edge and some great musicianship. Nowadays, metalcore is the norm, but these guys stand out. This is thrashy, aggressive, and makes you want to stomp around and break stuff. It has some raw production, where it sounds a little boomy in parts, but I think that adds to the affect. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Speed Kill Hate
Acts of Insanity
Escapi
36:13 – 9 Tracks
A lot of chatter about these guys online and around here and there. “Featuring members of Overkill” is all you hear, so you figure it will sound like them a bit, right? Well, it does a little bit. More shouty/growly vocals, but a straight-ahead thrashy sound backs it up. You will hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Threat Signal
Sampler
Nuclear Blast
7:25 – 2 Tracks
They got the whole Meshuggah thing going on. Throw in some of the clean vocals from Fear Factory along with a bunch of the Fear Factory sound, and you have these guys. It IS produced by Chrisitan Olde Wolbers from Fear Factory, so that explains that part of it.

Spheric Universe Experience
Mental Torments
Nightmare
69:09 – 9 Tracks
This came with the Pyramaze CD, and is French Prog-Power metal. They have well put together songs, with some technical chops, keyboards, clean vox, and not singing about dragons and stuff. If you like Fates Warning, Dream Theater, and that sort, you’d really be into this band. You may hear this on the Mosh Pit!

New stuff this week (5/15/06)

Howdy! Well, here’s a lil something about what’s new this week…

Artimus Pyledriver
Artimus Pyledriver
DRT
43:31 – 10 Tracks
Take a some AC/DC, throw in some Clutch and you got these guys. It’s some heavy punching hard rockin’ fun though. Straight Up southern style stoner metal. I think it’s pretty good and you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

The Sleeping
Questions and Answers
Victory
53:13 – 12 Tracks
Well, at first listen on the first trick… the closest thing I can think of… some emo rock version of Bush? It’s very singy… not really angry enough for the Mosh Pit. While they seem to be good at what they do, it’s just not Mosh Pit material!

This Is Hell
Sundowning
Trustkill
28:32 – 13 Tracks
Yo! It’s another hardcore record! It’s not too shabby. Just your average meat and potatoes hardcore band, with a little bit of metalcore-ish sound mixed in. The production is raw and edgy, which makes it pretty interesting. This is okay… you may hear it on the Mosh Pit.

Neaera
Let The Tempest Come
Metal Blade
50:40 – 11 Tracks
Well, this starts off pretty brutal! Usually I have the word “brutal” by my 2nd mini-review thinger. It’s got a mostly grind/death metal vibe… but of course, these days, it wouldn’t be cool without a little bit of metalcore sound, right? Actually, it’s just a pinch of metalcore… it’s is mostly brutal intense stuff, along the lines of Black Dahlia Murder. It’s got the screachy screaming sound with some heavy double kick behind it, then kicking into some great cookie monster vocals. It’s good stuff. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Eldritch
Neighborhell
LMP
45:22 – 11 Tracks
Power Metal! There’s been a bunch of new stuff out lately… I think we went a few months without anything in this genre. This isn’t just plain ol whiney dragon slaying power metal. It has some great guitar riffs, even a hint of Slayer in some of the guitars. There’s some decent heavy metal stuff going on, but yet it still keeps its power metal roots. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Doro
Warrior Soul
Locomotive
54:17 – 12 Tracks
Hey, it’s not too bad… It stays kind of heavy music-wise, but the emphasis is really on the vocals, they are way up in the mix. It’s a pretty straight ahead hard rock album. Some songs get a little mellow, but what can you expect!? Nothing really outstanding here. It’s almost like a Dio album, but with Doro singing! heh. You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit.

New stuff this week (5/8/06)

Misery Index
Discordia
Relapse
33:10 – 10 Tracks
Newest release from Misery Index doesn’t let up. It’s a nice brutal assault upon my speakers. Solid performance, mixing some grindcore with all out thrash/death metal. The playing on all sides is just intense. You will hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Lynam
Slave To The Machine
DRT
41:31 – 12 Tracks
Good ol Rock n Roll. A more melodic hard rock/rock band. While they are good at this, it’s not really Mosh Pit material.

The Abominable Iron Sloth
The Abominable Iron Sloth
Goodfellow
26:47 – 9 Tracks
A sludgey stoner metal band similar in sound to Bongzilla. They’ve got a pretty heavy groove going on, but it gets to be 26 minutes of the same stuff throughout the album. You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit… mostly because you only have to hear one song at a time! haha.

As I Lay Dying
A Long March: The First Recordings
Metal Blade
68:32 – 22 tracks
This is a re-recording of their first EP to start off the CD, then the original recording of their first album, “Beneath the Encasing of Ashes” followed by the original recording of that first EP. Pretty neat idea. These guys are one of the best of this “metalcore” genre, as they don’t really give up to whiney chorus stuff. They stay pretty heavy with great playing. The re-recorded stuff of course sounds better, and since the original stuff is right there on the same disc, it’s easy to compare! The older stuff is of course more raw and probably more brutal, as the growling is a bit more gravelly and not as polished. This is something you’ll hear on the Mosh Pit.

Zyklon
Disintigrate
Candlelight
10 Tracks
This CD is pretty sick. Just balls out thrash/death metal. If you dig the stuff like Behemoth or Vader, you’d probably enjoy this release. There’s not much more I can say about it…it’s just great damn heavy stuff done right. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Tool
10,000 Days
Volcano
75:50 – 11 Tracks
Some people might think this CD seems like it took 10,000 days to listen to! While it has its great heavy “Tool” moments, a lot of it is just experimental messing around. As you know, we like songs to not fuck around on the Mosh Pit. But of course, we’ll play a track or two. Rolling With Scissors (the show after us on WORT) will be playing it a lot. So stick around to hear the most out of this CD!

Grave Digger
25 To Live
Locomotive
68:51 – 14 Tracks
Live CD from these guys in Brazil in May of 2005. Sounds pretty good. Good old crazy power metal! It doesn’t sound like this was remixed, overdubbed and all that. It sounds pretty much like you’d think they’d sound live! Nothing like the “deeeger” chants from the Brazilians. Good live album, so yeah, you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Yyrkoon
Unhealthy Opera
Osmose
48:36 – 13 Tracks
Their last release (“Occult Medicine”) kind of slipped through the cracks, and we picked up on it a little late. This new release was sent over, but not a lot of fanfare with this either. I am glad to have gotten it of course though. It is along the same vein as the above Zyklon release. Fast, intense, brutal playing, with vocal growls to match. The drummer has moved on to be a member of Soilwork, but still plays on this album and he’s fast and furious!

New stuff this week (5/1/06)

Hey… here’s the new stuff for the week. Still missing a few things, so I may do some more updating soon!

First Blood
Killafornia
Trustkill
34:44 – 11 Tracks
A straightedge hardcore band with a pretty good metal groove going on. It features some guys from the band Terror. They seem to stay true to the hardcore/metal sound without going too far away from it. They stay heavy and that’s good. You’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit

The Autumn Offering
Embrace The Gutter
Victory
35:18 – 11 Tracks
Another metalcore offering from Victory. It sounds good, nothing really new here. Some pretty good guitar work and solos going on. It’s got some good melody, yet still keeping it brutal. The singy metal core choruses don’t really get very singy, where a band would get all emo, they still have a bit of brutal in the vocals. It’s pretty decent and you’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Ministry
Rio Grande Blood
Megaforce
51:25 – 13 Tracks
Ministry is back and they haven’t let up. Yes, it’s another anti-bush vibe, and it’s done right. It’s in your face, heavy and great to kick back and absorb the greatness. There’s not much more to say about this, than it’s great! You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Tyr
Eric The Red
Napalm
70:38 – 12 Tracks
Epic metallers Tyr are back for more with this release. I feel a bit like a lepruchaun when I listen to this, as it’s a bit, um, well, “lepruchauney.” A bit further in the CD, while singing about some dragon, they get a bit more concise in the epic power metal sound. It’s okay, but nothing really exciting for me. You might hear a track on the ‘Pit.

Scar Symmetry
Pitch Black Progress
Nuclear Blast
59:22 – 13 Tracks
The latest in a line of “catchy death metal.” It sounds a bit like Soilwork with the clean/death vocals bouncing back and forth with a nice clean metal sound backing it up. The death metal vocals stay pretty deathy, whereas the clean vox really are a contrast to that…it’s amazing that it’s the same guy!? While it’s not really original, I think it’s pretty good and you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Sodom
Sodom
SPV
Good ‘Ol Sodom. Great catchy thrash metal at its finest. It’s good n heavy, doesn’t let up, and well, it’s Sodom. What else can you say? You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

New stuff this week (4/24/06)

Hey all! Here are my thoughts on the stuff in the inbox this week…

Enslaved
Ruun
Candlelight
46:03 – 8 Tracks
Hey, a new release from Enslaved. These guys have seemed to always be a solid black metal band. This album is a no frills, straightforward black metal album. Good sound, nothing too wacky or out there. Just a good example of meat and potatoes black metal. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Beyond Fear
DTO
SPV
47:19 – 12 Tracks
Hey, cool, a power metal release. The first track is called “Scream Machine” and boy, it starts off with some screaming!! Of course, this is the new project from Ripper Owens, so it will be sounding a bit like Priest. This is pretty good. He seems to fit this a little better than Iced Earth. Just straight forward power metal. This proves that Ripper can write stuff too. This seems to be his primary focus, as who knows when Iced Earth will record again. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

The Alien Blakk
Modes of Alienation
Black Lotus
47:47 – 10 Tracks
Hey, another instrumental album! This is kinda neat. You know how many times you hear a song, it sounds all cool, then some stupid scream, singing, or SOMETHING mucks it all up. Well, not so with an instrumental album! Hah! Well, now you just have some dumb guitar sound or keyboard wackiness to screw it up. Anyways… this band is a guitar player named Joshua Craig, he’s worked with a bunch of people. What’s going to gain the most notoreity on this CD is that Dave Ellefson (formerly in Megadeth) and Craig Neilson (from Flotsam and Jetsam) are the rhythm section. So about the CD… pretty solid playing of course, straightforward metal-hard rock type songs. Mostly a lot of guitar wanking, almost like a Steve Vai album, but not so weird. Also, some great metal-thrashy stuff. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Dysrhythmia
Barriers And Passages
Relapse Records

New release from these guys sounds good. Well, I could only hear their stuff on Myspace. They are all instrumental, and kind of a cacophony of musical goodness. A lot of all over the place notes, music, metal. A little Meshuggah, some stoner metal, some of this and that… all with solid production. This is refreshing stuff and different than the norm. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit. They are also coming to the High Noon Saloon in Madison on June 21st.

Maroon
When Worlds Collide
Century Media
43:13 – 13 Tracks
Hey, it’s another metal core release. But wait, they are from Germany! And guess what, they are all vegan and straightedge! I only say that because it’s printed in the bio like it’s supposed to matter. I guess it does if you are straightedge and vegan. I think it’s pretty good hardcore/metalcore with some meaty heavy riffage. They keep it heavy and don’t just stick to the hardcore stuff, they get some blastbeats and some Gothenburg sound as well. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Speakers for the Dead
Prey For Murder
Magna Carta
50:54 – 12 Tracks
This band takes a bit of a metal core sound and seems to mix it with a bit of prog-metal sound. They are on Magna Carta Records, which is typically a prog rock/metal label. So to hear more growly vocals on parts of the songs is a change for this label. But this is a little different than a lot of the stuff out there these days. This has mostly clean vocals, but occasionally like I said, they get growly, and can go from plain hard-rocky, to all out metal in the same song. It’s not too bad, and you’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Iron Fire
Revenge
Napalm
55:25 – 12 Tracks
At first glance, I thought this week was a dud for new releases. But that’s why I listen to all the new stuff that I see is released to metal radio each given week. This is some quality power metal from Denmark. It has a lot of the stereotypical epic power metal type stuff. You know, with “wings, metal, doom, fire, king, brave, dark, spell” as words in some of the song titles. But they do a good job in this genre, and you’ll probably hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Fear of Eternity
Spirit of Sorrow
Moribund
43:13 – 8 Tracks
Mostly keyboards and piano on this… sounds like some decent background music, until you hear some black metal screaching/screaming in the background. You’d think vocals would be in the forefront, but this is something I guess one could call ambient black metal. While it’s something different, you probably won’t hear this on the Mosh Pit…. unless, well, it’s in the background!

Bullets and Octane
In The Mouth Of The Young
RCA
40:16 – 12 Tracks
This seems to be more of a hard rock release than anything metal. Since The Mosh Pit tries to be a “metal show” I won’t go much further. That’s that!

Tool
“Vocarious” Single
Volcano
7:08 – 1 Track
What can you say about tool? A long awaited single from their forthcoming 10,000 days album. This is classic Tool. Not much has changed on this one folks. While it’s just a single, it’s good, pretty heavy towards the end. I think the big station in town is playing this, so I’m not sure if I’ll break this out or not on the Mosh Pit.

New stuff this week (4/17/06)

Time for this week’s installment of “new stuff”

Apiary
Lost In Focus
Metal Blade
44:27 – 13 Tracks
This has the new-ish metal core type of sound. A bit like Dillinger Escape Plan, some of that sireny sounding guitar, but then kicks in to all out brutality. It’s pretty good, but nothing really new here. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Phoenix Mourning
When Excuses Become Antiques
Metal Blade
54:11 – 13 Tracks
The usual singy/growly metal-core sound. You know, where there’s really a mean mad soundy growler guy, then some clean vocals singing to make you feel good about the growling, with some nice melodic music in the background, turning into some brutal riffing and drums. The cool thing though is they seem to layer two different growls and the clean together, which gives it a bit of a fresh feel. You’ll hear this on the ‘Pit.

Motorjesus
Deathrider
Locomotive
52:34 – 12 Tracks
This sounds a bit more like a hard rock album than the thrashy stuff I’ve tended to like lately. I think the singer is trying to be James Hetfield! But… it sounds pretty good, as there’s a lot of the same ol same ol out there lately and this isn’t. The title track rocks pretty good. You’ll hear this on the ‘Pit.

Ihsahn
The Adverary
Candlelight
50:04 – 9 Tracks
This is the new project from the voice of Emperor. He plays everything on this album except drums. It has a bit of a prog-metal feel, almost old Dream Theater sounding, but with a black metal twinge. Different songs have a different sound. It’s a bit all over the place, but it’s pretty good. A little of everything for everyone! So, yeah, pretty neat project he’s got going for himself, and yes, you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Silent Civilian
Rebirth Of The Temple
Mediaskare
64:55 – 13 Tracks
This is pretty much a metalcore album, but overall, good n metal! Reminds me a little of Chimaira in the vocal department. It’s got some good meaty riffs, but it does have some clean whiney chorus stuff sometimes. Overall though, the metalness of it all overshadows the other stuff, so yes, you’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Blind Guardian
Fly EP
Nuclear Blast
3 tracks
This is classic rockin’ Blind Guardian. What more can you say!? You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

New stuff this week (4/10/06)

Here are my thoughts on the new releases this week. If you want to know more about them, listen to the radio show! 89.9fm in Madison on Mondays at 11pm, or online! click the link above.

Astral Doors
Astralism
Locomotive
54:58 – 13 Tracks
A fairly straight-forward power metal deal. Like I say about a lot of stuff, nothing really groundbreaking, but the vocalist has a pretty unique voice that commands your attention. Some good solid musicianship happening here. You’ll probably hear this on the ‘Pit!

Fragments of Unbecoming
Sterling Black Icon
Metal Blade
50:30 – 12 Tracks
This has got a great black metal sound. Some pretty cool riffs, a great mix of some thrash with death and black metal on here. Great crisp production. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Kalas
Kalas
Tee Pee
48:16 – 9 Tracks
A sludgey stoner metal band. It’s a bit slow and plodding. Thick and meaty riffs, with more of a screamy stoner vocalist (it’s the guy from High on Fire), but not as much as Bongzilla. It’s okay, nothing really exciting. You may hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Path of Resisitance
Can’t Stop The Truth
Victory
30:49 – 13 Tracks
This has a hardcore sound. This band features former Earth Crisis members. Just has a typical hardcore sound with the guitars and drums, growling, shouting, etc. etc. Not awful, just nothing new.

Gat Rot
Us Versus Them
Rotten
40:00 – 10 Tracks
The description says hardcore… it has a bit more than just a hardcore sound. But as the album goes on, it’s just yet ANOTHER hardcore album. Sounds decent, maybe we’ll have to do a “new hardcore set” on the Mosh Pit to play all of this stuff.

Protest The Hero
Kezia
Vagrant
44:03 – 10 Tracks
This one is a bit tougher to put a finger on. On first listen, I hear some Avenged Sevenfold, but a bit more angry, it has a bit of a proggy feel to it, mostly clean singing vocals, but still some growl/screams in there as well. It’s quirky, heavy, and fun to listen to. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Angel Blake
Angel Blake
Metal Blade
44:40 – 10 Tracks
On first pop in the CD player, the sound reminded me of Grip Inc. That wore off pretty quick. They recommend this if you like Paradise Lost or Sentenced. I can see that, or the more melodic Moonspell. It’s got a good sound, some catchy songs, normal vocals, not much in the way of singing, screaming or growling. You may hear this on the Mosh Pit.

Moonspell
Memorial

Moonspell has kicked it back up a notch. Back to their old heavy form. They just kept going with that “Southern Deathstyle” song sound! It’s heavy pretty much throughout and sounds great! They keep it heavy and dark. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!!

Ministry is pissed off! This is just a 3 song Ministry and 3 song Revolting Cocks tour sampler, but damn, this Ministry stuff is heavy as hell! Fast mean riffin’. This is what Ministry is all about! You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!
