New Stuff This Week… 8/10/15

Act of Defiance
Birth and the Burial
Metal Blade Records
Broderick and Drover left Megadeth then they formed this band… with a more extreme vocalist than they’re used to playing with… kind of a cool contrast to hear these guys playing what Mustaine wanted all those years to do what they please and that they came up with something extreme.  This is more or less some extreme thrash type stuff with harsh vox.  Great catchy and brutal stuff going on here!  (don’t forget about Matt Bachand from Shadows Fall moving to Bass for this band, and the vocalist guy from Scar the Martyr

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
“Waiting For Blood” (Single)
Rise Above
Melodic stoner metal… the mix is a bit tinny, hopefully the full length sounds better.

CROWN
Natron
Candlelight
Not to be confused with THE Crown.   This is an industrial doomy sludge band.  So yeah, it’s sludgey doomy and has that electronic industrial feel to it.

The Oxford Coma
Paris is Mine
Self-Released
Sort of a proggy doom stoner metal thing going on.

Mindless Self Indulgence
“Personal Jesus” (Single)
Metropolis
MSI has a unique sound, it carries on to this album of stuff from an album called PINK which was rumored, but never released.

Soulfly
Archangel
Nuclear Blast Entertainment
A lot of Soulfly albums have come and gone… they’ve all been pretty good.  Seems as though Soulfly is becoming more like Van Halen.  The drummer is now his son Zyon, bass is Igor Jr…. and well, there’s still Marc Rizzo to round things out.  This album is a bit short, but all the songs have that signature Soulfly sound… heavy thrash with a bit of that Sepultura tribal groove to it.

Archer
Culling The Weak
Metalville Records
A bit of a standard metal thing with some groove going on.  So not full on groove metal nor thrashy… just straight up heavy metal.

Battlecross
Rise to Power
Metal Blade Records
Catchy thrashy extreme metal.  With no real 3″ of Blood or Skeletonwitch around for this heavier than thrash trash to compete with, these guys are the real deal (they were before too)  It’s just that they stand a bit more ahead of the game now and this album cements it. Crisp production, heavy, brutal, catchy, groovin’ all at the same time.  If you call yourself a metalhead you better like this.  If not, turn in your card.

BLASPHMACHINE
SALVATION
Label: Dunkelheit Produktionen
Brutal blackened death metal a bit grindy too

Istengoat
Atlas Shrugged LP
Blood Harvest
Some good quality blackened deathmetal.  Yup… It’s fast brutal death metal with a bit of that black metal intensity and “cold” sound in the guitar tone.  Vox are mostly cookie monster with the screamy growls thrown in here and there too.  Good stuff.

VHS
Hi-Fi Horror (Uncut Edition) Digital Album
Horror Pain Gore Death
Thrashy and raw but a bit on the extreme side… screamy and growly vox.  Some cool melodic guitar stuff too, but not so much that it gets all meedly or less “heavy”  Good stuff!

Human Desolation
Mind Grind Paradigm
Self Released (distributed by Nordavind Records / Plastic Head)
Heavy catchy melodic death.  Good groove, good production…

KILLING GANDHI
CINEMATIC PARALLELS
CRIME RECORDS
Your standard Brutal metal…  a good chugga chugga thing with some melodic death going on.

GROUNDLESS
ADRENALINE
CRIME RECORDS
A bit hardcore, a bit modern metalcore with the emo-ish vox.  Melodic metal tendencies in the music.

ANTROPOFAGO
Æra Dementiæ
Kaotoxin Records
We’ve got some quality death metal going on here. Brutal as hell with some good guitar work, vox are barked out with some ferocity

Antagonist Zero
No Tears
Inverse Records
Melodic doom with some death metal stuff going on too.
