New stuff this week 4/23/07

Beyond The Sixth Seal
The Resurrection Of Everything Tough
Metal Blade
55:58 – 13 Tracks
This features a couple guys from The Red Chord. It kind of has a southern, melodic, death stoner feel to it. They are from Boston, but I guess that doesn’t mean it can’t have a little bit of a southern hard rock feel. But it is heavy throughout… cookie-monster-ish vocals and solid playing make it work just fine. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Back from Ashes
Broken

Desert Core
37:45 – 10 Tracks
Upon first listen, I thought of Damageplan. It’s heavy, but yet, still accessible, and not all that heavy. It has some good ol breakdowns, some clean singy parts, some almost Tool sounding stuff too, maybe a little Static X. It goes back and forth from being pretty good and heavy to some more hard rock-post grunge stuff. You might hear this on the ‘Pit!

Krypteria
Bloodangel’s Cry
Caroline
60:18 – 12 Tracks
It’s another one of those cool metal bands fronted by a opera-like female vocalist. The music is almost Dream-Theater-esque, clean and a bit prog sounding. Of course, obviously the Angtoria, Lacuna Coil, etc comparisons have to be drawn. It’s not bad, but yet just another one of these bands in the crown. I think we’ll still play it on the Mosh Pit!

Finnitroll
Ur Jordens Djup
Century Media
55:55 – 11 Tracks
“Blackened Pagan Folk Metal” That says a lot right there, but it does sum up all that is Finnitroll. This classic sounding black metal band from Finland… this is a great compliment to Dimmu Borgir, while not as evil sounding, it still has the cool keyboard (symphonic) element filling out the sound. It’s not super scary heavy, but it’s catchiness reminds me a bit of some older Amorphis stuff.

Vital Remains
Icons of Evil
Century Media
67:16 – 10 Tracks
One word to describe this: Blasphemous. It’s just pure sonic Evi. Only Glen Benton’s evil vocals can be on a release such as this. It’s just all out evil death metal like only Vital Remains can deliver. Fast, Heavy, intense, probably the music you’d hear if you went to hell. Well, that a normal non-metalhead would hear in hell. I would probably have to hear Bjork or something. You’ll hear this on the Mosh Pit!

Ozzy Osbourne
I Don’t Want To Stop
Epic
4:00 – 1 Tracks
It’s Ozzy. Has a good low end crunch to it. I mean, hey, it’s Ozzy. I wonder if I sang into that microphone if I’d sound like Ozzy too!? It’s nothing groundbreaking, I mean, Ozzy’s gettin’ up there, why try something new? You’ll probably hear a snippet or two from this tonight.

Dimmu Borgir
In Sorte Diaboli
Nuclear Blast
47:26 – 10 Tracks
This CD is a bit more straightforward for D.B.  It’s heavy in all the right places.  It’s not as crazy theatric as they have been the last couple albums.   It’s what we’ve come to expect from Dimmu… all out brutal modern black metal.  It’s well produced and you’ll be hearing this plenty on the Mosh Pit.  The more you hear it the more you like it!
