New Stuff This Week… 3/23/15
ADD
Core
Pavement Music
Female fronted melodic near-thrash metal. Good catchy stuff, but really more on the solid rock side of things… but probably enough metal edge for the Mosh Pit too.
Dodheimsgard
A umbra Omega
Peaceville Records
Black metal, prog metal, avant garde metal, a little industrial. Some long long songs, to me, this is sounding like a Frank Zappa of post-metal. Some pianos, saxophones, here and there
King Hitter
King Hitter
Restricted Release/Plastic Head
Featuring a former vocalist from CoC (Karl Agnell sang on “Blind”) this is some driving hard rockin’ stuff, catchy songs, vox are out in front and reminds me a bit of Volbeat a little.
Bio-Cancer
Tormenting the Innocent
Candlelight
Extreme vox in otherwise, standard fast thrashy metal and it works great!
Von Hertzen Brothers
New Day Rising
Spinefarm
A little bit similar to the King Hitter above, a good driving hard rock thing with the vox mixed way out front… this one probably isn’t as heavy, just a bit more on the hard rock side of things than metal.
Byzantine
To Release is To Resolve
self-released
Proggy, melodic, catchy… not quite as heavy as their earlier stuff, but they do get going in parts and really have it going on in this proggy technical metal thing.
Killswitch Engage
“Loyalty” (Catch The Throne: The Mixtape)
Roadrunner
Your typical KsE track, heavy in parts, clean vox, growly vox, catchy heavy stuff. (Just a single)
KAFIRUN
Glorification Of Holy Death
Self Released
Classic cold, evil black metal, fast drumming, decent production, more of a chanting growling vocal style.
BEAUTALITY
Einfallen: A Tale ov Torment & Triumph
Nordavind Records
Doomy post-metal… it’s just like atmospheric rock type stuff getting into the drony black metal stuff.
I Am The Witness
Survival of the Fittest
Independent
Techy djent-ish Meshuggah-like metal with some post metal clean vox and other djenty catchy brutal core stuff too.
Massenhinrichtung
Zakon zbroi
Darker Than Black Records
Metal from Belarus! It’s blackened folk/pagan metal. Good production, the pagan/folk part mostly just comes from a string section prevalent through a lot of the stuff…
Bureviy
Concealed Beyond the Space
Darker Than Black Records
Ukrainian black metal. A bit proggy, melodic, but still your cold drony black metal guitar sound. Screamy vox with some chanting/folky vocals too.
Gloson
Yearwalker
Art of Propaganda / Catatonic State
Doomy Post-metal
Karyn Crisis’ Gospel Of The Witches
Salem’s Wounds
Century Media
A bit doomy and melodic, almost a little Opeth like in style with Karyn’s screamy growly vox.
ILIUM
My Misanthropia
Nightmare Records
Proggy power metal. Heavier stuff, not quite as rediculous as Dragonforce on the speed, but it’s pretty heavy and fast stuff, catchy and thrashy.
Theories
Regression
Metal Blade Records
Heavy deathy thrash, quick short songs with no fucking around.
The Gentle Storm
The Diary
Inside Out
Fe-metal… interesting release, 2 album set, same songs on both, but one is “gentle” more laid back and just plain non-real metal stuff going on. and “storm” is the same song with more of a metal edge to it.
PERDITION TEMPLE
The Tempter’s Victorious (CD, LP)
Hells Headbangers
I’d have to say this is blackened death metal with more on the death metal side. Good meat and potatoes stuff.
GOUGE
Beyond Death (CD, LP)
Hells Headbangers
Thrashy punky blackened death metal. yeah… really.
ABOMINATOR
Evil Proclaimed (CD, LP)
Hells Headbangers
Brutal thrash, probably more on the black/death metal side of things, but evil sounding… so yeah, a good mix, mostly black metal though.
BARREN EARTH
On Lonely Towers
Century Media
Well, if you miss the “old” Opeth, I think this band will have the fix for you. Melodic proggy death metal.
Pantommind
Searching for Eternity
Spectastral Records
I was just going to write how this was pretty cool prog metal, a good edge, heavy, then a voiceover comes on my mp3’s (you’re listening to Pantommind searching for eternity). Yeah, no. What is this, 2003? Sorry guys.
Inculter
Persisting Devolution
Edged Circle Productions
So a while back, when I first got this album, I give it to Mike… then later on, he tells me he likes this… (I don’t listen to the new stuff usually til the week of adding it to rotation, Mike previews right away)… this is one he liked a lot, and I see why. Fast heavy blackened thrash with no fucking around. So yeah, a bit of a Slayer vibe, but probably a bit heavier and a bit more raw. Cool stuff.
CHOKING ON ILLUSIONS
Rest/less
Bastardized Recordings
Some basic hardcore, metalcore type stuff.
FORTID
9
Schwarzdorn Production
How about another band in the old school of Opeth? Classic heavy black metal but also dynamically going into some melodic stuff too… Overall though, this is some quality melodic black-ish death metal.
