New Stuff This Week… 8/3/15
Chemical Burn
Raining Anvils
MegaSonic
A heavy groovin’ thrash leaning towards some death metal.
Saint Asonia
Better Place
RCA
4 August 2015
So I’m reading the description of this before listening… members are “ex Three Days Grace guy, Staind guy, Eye Empire guy, Finger Eleven guy…” and now I think, how could this possibly be something for the Mosh Pit? Okay, now I’m hitting play… yup, as expected, watered down commercial hard rock. Might be good for some people. Not for the guys that do this radio show.
Clutch
“X-Ray Visions”
Weathermaker
Great song, 100% Clutch going on. Catchy groovin heavy stoner metal rock n roll. This is one you want to listen to over and over and sing along.
CATTLE DECAPITATION
The Anthropocene Extinction
Metal Blade
Technical, grindy, death metal… this thing and these guys are the real deal. Outright brutality but with some grooves, technicality and wow.
Black Fast
Terms Of Surrender
eOne Entertainment
A heavy thrashy modern metal thing… big wall of sound production, aggressive melodic death feel going on. Great stuff!
Fear Factory
Genexux
Nuclear Blast Entertainment
Well, it’s Fear Factory, and on first listen, it actually does have a bit of a Demanufacture era vibe and feel to it. Catchy harsh and clean vox, classic FF riffs and drumming and overall sound. I think most fans will be pleased. Nothing groundbreaking, but not pissing on their legacy either… just keeping it up well.
RUSSKAJA
Peace, Love & Russian Roll
Napalm Records
Kind of a folky polka ska metal…from Russia. While fun and fresh, it’s still not quite metal. Maybe we’ll throw it on for a fun track.
SPACE MIRRORS
Stella Polaris
Label: Atomic Age Records
Gothy doom stuff with maybe a little bit of prog rock going on.
The Green River Burial
Blight
Bastardized Recordings
Just two tracks of pretty decent brutal core stuff. Track two gets into a little bit of more melodic stuff… but we’re still solid brutal.
Throaat
Black Speed
Invictus
A raw thrashy black metal, more on the side of thrashy evilness.
WINDHAND
Two Urns (Single)
Relapse Records
Old school grungy doomy stuff
Fallen Angels
World In Decay
Cyberdyne Records
Melodic modern thrashy stuff.
Saritap
Sorcerers of the Seven Gods TAPE
Iron Bonehead
Raw old school creepy black metal
CIANIDE
Death, Doom and Destruction (CD, DLP)
Hells Headbangers
Good ol classic death metal. Chugging riffs, cookie monster vox and a catchy groove.
InAeona
Force Rise The Sun
Prosthetic Records
Female fronted atmospheric stuff with some metal tendencies, an electronic feel and catchy stuff too. Not sure if we’ll find room on the Mosh Pit for this.
Krisiun
Forged In Fury
Century Media
Brutal catchy death metal. These guys know what they are doing and don’t fuck around. Heavy with some of that Brazilian influence thrown in there too.
Enabler
Fail To Feel Safe
Century Media
Aside from the drama in the media with this band, this album is a pretty solid hardcore tinged metal thing.
HIBRIA
Self-Titled
Test Your Metal Records
A little thrashy musically, but the rest? Well, a bit of a modern power metal mixed with thrash feel. Pretty decent stuff.
DEIPHAGO
Into the Eye of Satan (CD, LP, TAPE)
Hells Headbangers
Raw old school black metal with a little bit of a thrash thing going on.
BARBATOS (Japan)
Straight Metal War (CD, LP)
Hells Headbangers
Raw thrashy punky stuff. A bit old school sounding, catchy in parts, kinda fun to listen to. Some good classic metal with thrashy stuff, a little bit extreme in parts too.
Majestic Downfall
…When Dead
Pulverised Records
Doomy blackened death with realllly long songs.
Casey Skye
A Careful Distraction
Imminence Records
Modern metalcore with that emo vox and bouncy metalcore stuff… screamy breakdowns and stuff too. Get those karate moves practiced up.
OPERATION: MINDCRIME
Re-Inventing the Future Single
Frontiers Music srl
This is the Geoff Tate “project” And it pretty much sounds like the same direction that Ryche and Tate’s other stuff has been in. It’s decent, but there’s just no real spark. This track is trying too hard to sound like Empire.
CRIMSON SUN
Towards the Light
Maple Metal
It’s been a while since we got something from our friends to the north, Maple Metal Records. Glad to have something back… this is some more or less prog/power metal with female vocals.
Abandoned Dreams
Home
Label: Self-Release
Some long doomy stuff. It’s not really “post metal” but it is some doom that goes on, but has some good melody. Just 3 tracks.
Noctum
Until Then…Until the End
Metal Blade Records
Catchy 70’s throwback stoner-ish metal. Gosh there was such a phase a year or two ago of that 70’s throwback metal and it went away FAST. kinda nice to hear something again. these swedes know what they’re doing.
Trivium
“Silence In The Snow” (single)
Roadrunner
Classic trivium going on here… might be a little “over produced” It just doesn’t have any breathing room.
