New Stuff This Week… 4/18/16
Incite
Oppression
Minus HEAD
So we just got done playing the reissue of this band’s first album (which kicked ass)… let’s see what they can do on their new 4th album? yeah, no fucking around here. Great modern heavy thrashy stuff with a big heavy groove.
Deftones
Gore
Reprise
So i’ve been on record as not really being a fan of the Deftones… and well, their last album was ok, it rocked pretty good. Seems like their back to form with a lot of Chino singy stuff. Some screamy stuff too. Music is decent… This isn’t the album that’s gonna turn me on to Deftones… kinda more of the same.
36 Crazyfists
“Renegades” [Single]
Spinefarm
Carrying that melodic metalcore torch from Alaska, they’re back with a new single. Decent stuff, and very catchy.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
“People-Vultures” / “Gamma Knife” [Single]
ATO

Ace Frehley (Single)
Origins Vol. 1
eOne Entertainment
All star cast of covers from Ace…. not sure what I think about this… musically it’s good with some decent titles. Lead single is “White Room”
Aborted
Retrogore
Century Media
Brutal, technical, heavy, a little bit of some grindy gore, but 100% great death metal.
Nemesea
Uprise
Napalm Records
A female fronted hard rock type thing. I’d say this would be good classic hard rock or solid rock type stuff.
Media Solution
The Prelude
Pavement Music
Catchy, thrashy, hardcore and a bit modern metal sounding too. Vocals and music has a bit of a Pro-Pain feel to it. Cool stuff!
The 69 Eyes
Universal Monster
Nuclear Blast USA
A little bit goth, a little bit hard rock and solid rock-ish. Catchy and maybe a little bit of a Volbeat-light vibe going on.
THE DEFIANTS
Love and Bullets – RADIO SINGLE
Frontiers Music s.r.l.
A single of some 80’s/90’s sounding stuff. Melodic hard rock with classic singy AOR-like vocals. I think this time-travelled from 1991
WRONG
Wrong (NA Promo)
Relapse Records
A grungy/sludgey hardcore thing with some melody going on in some guitar work, did I mention it was grungy?
Abnormality
Mechanisms of Omniscience
Metal Blade Records
Brutal death metal. A big wall of chugga chugga cookie monsters coming at you. METAL!
Boudain
Way of the Hoof
Self-Released
Good ol stoner metal. Nice groove, a little doomy, but catchy and stuff you can chill to.
Ferium
Behind the Black Eyes
Self-Release
I guess this could be called deathcore. A good death metal base with some hardcore stuff and maybe a bit of a melodic death/djent feeling too.
DEVILZ BY DEFINITION
The Devilution
CDN Records
A sort of thrashy groove… reminds me a bit of a Pantera/Lamb of God hybrid.
Prag 83
Metamorphoses
Nordvis Produktion
Ambient melodic um, experimental, mostly acoustic shoegazy stuff? I dunno. Not for the Mosh Pit..
PHALLOPLASTY
Necrophagic Funeral Ritual (Redux)
Gore House Productions
Grindy, gurgly raw death metal. Stuff like this is always fun because its just so over the top. It’s got a St. Anger-like snare going on with a typical death metal groove too.
Zealotry
The Last Witness
Lavadome Productions
Death metal, a bit technical, a hint of doom and a bit of proggy weirdness going on too.. Decent stuff.
Doomsday Ceremony
Black Heart
Greyhaze Records
Melodic death type stuff, with more of a thrashy death metal thing going on. Pretty cool.
Reptilian (Norway)
Perennial Void Traverse
Edged Circle Productions
Some melodic deathy stuff, a bit more raw with more of a black metal thing goin gon.
Magick Touch
Electrick Sorcery
Edged Circle Productions
Traditional metal/hard rock with a bit of a catchy stoner throwback feel.
Putrisect / Scorched
Final State of Existence
Edged Circle Productions
Putrisect is Pretty decent groovin’ black metal. Scorched is blackened death metal with some groove.
Tombstoned
II
Svart Records
Throwback stoner/doom stuff. Good catchy groove, vocals are a bit “atmospheric” overall good stuff.
GODDESS
The Withering
Label: Voidcaller Records
One track of proggy doom. A bit bluesy, some good ol organ sounds, and it’s one long 18 min track!
NEOHERESY
Potop
Elegy Records
Kind of an ambient doomy folk black metal. Not getting really heavy, just a big dramatic feel and a bit of an endurance test.
ASTRAL PATH
An Oath to the Void
Label: Avantgarde Music
Atmospheric black metal… a lot of long parts, a little bit of a melodic groove in some parts, but your basic melodic atmospheric black metal.
HORRICANE
Synthetic Forms
Label: Self-Released
A bit of a technical death metal type thing with some fat grooving going on too.
DEVOLTED
Broken Kings
Label: Self-Released
I’d have to say this is a basic melodic heavier metal. Catchy and maybe a bit proggy with the vocal harmonies and some of the different stuff they’re doing musically… Overall, some good catchy grooving metal.
