New Stuff This Week… 8/22/16
Sodom
Decision Day
SPV
Classic metal, classic thrash metal with that edge that only Sodom can do. They keep churning out great albums… i’ll keep listening.
Running Wild
Rapid Foray
SPV
Classic power metal with an edge. This band has been around forever and really is basically the singer and a new band about 5 years ago. Good classic german power metal/metal stuff.
Helstar
Vampiro
EMP
This is another band that is great, consistent and long lasting, they just seem to be under a lot of radars. Great classic metal vox by James Rivera and a thrashy traditional classic metal sound with yeah, a good heavy edge to it.
Husbandry
Fera
Aqualamb
A hardcore/experimental/proggy/metalcore/female fronted type thing. Heavy, melodic and yeah, proggy, maybe a little Otep feeling, great powerful vox.
The Album Leaf
Between Waves
Relapse
I’m starting to worry about Relapse… 3 releases lately that aren’t metal and just kinda electronic stuff. what’s the deal?
Skeletonwitch
The Apothic Gloom (EP)
Prosthetic Records
While they lost their lead singer, these guys haven’t skipped a beat. Their old vocalist had a good abrasive quality… this new guy isn’t quite as unique of a force, but holds his own, and musically they still kick ass, heavy, catchy, brutal, groovin’.
Spirit Adrift
Chained To Oblivion
Prosthetic Records
Big meaty riffs, big doomy sound, big long songs. Some sabbathy vibes.
Make Them Suffer
Old Souls/Lord Of Woe
Rise Records
Modern metalcore. This one seems to stay heavy, getting a little proggy in parts, while djenty an brutal too.
Metallica
Hardwired
Blackened
When these guys come out with something, you never know what Metallica you get. In this case you get the classic thrash pioneer Metallica! Classic thrash sound with catchy heavy riffs, a quick short song with no fucking around. Sounds a bit over compressed (everything mooshed up too loud) like Death Magnetic but that can be overlooked. Good stuff!
Panzie
Take Off Your Mask (Single)
Independent
Screamy grooving hard rock. Raw almost AC/DC like hard rock.
Delain
Moonbather
Napalm Records
Epic female fronted power metal. The metal parts have a good edge to ’em… there’s a symphonic epic thing going on too match along with Charlotte’s clean sung vox.
No One’s Project
Warning
Independent
So far, System of a Down was pretty damn unique, nothing really came close to their sound. Now this band comes along, and I thought it was Serj Tankian singing. Musically we’re like SOAD a bit too, but maybe a bit like Dog Fashion Disco type stuff too. Without any new SOAD for a while, this is pretty darn close and pretty good…. very catchy.
Essential End
Deadwood
Pavement Music
Catchy modern metal, a decent heavy groove, but clean vox make it a bit more “solid-rock” ish. Then you get into the two-steppy beats with clean vox… eh.
MYRKUR
Mausoleum
Relapse
Mostly piano-doomy stuff with clean female vox. seems a bit like church music. Not quite metal.
THROES OF DAWN
Our Voices Shall Remain
Argonauta Records
Sort of a proggy doom metal
Hexenslaught
Demo I
Invictus Productions
A demo. Yeah. Sounds like it was recorded into a microcassette recorder in an old garage. C’mon now.
Kuolemanlaakso
M. Laakso – Vol. 1: The Gothic Tapes
Svart Records
Overall, a melodic death/prog/goth/doom thing going on. A little bit of a slower Amorphis time vibe, a little heaver stuff in parts, overall a littl goth and melodic metal.
Solution .45
Nightmares In The Waking State – Part II
AFM Records
Some melodic death with a little groove metal thing going on, some growls, screams, and some clean vox….but a good melodic death metal groove.
Vahrzaw
Twin Suns & Wolves’ Tongues CD
Blood Harvest
Good fast heavy blackened death/thrash. There’s a big black metal feel, but a bit of thrash and just brutal metal and death metal too. good stuff.
BELLRINGER
Jettison
Rock Is Hell
Some bluesy stoner-ish rock n roll. Laid back.
LIES
Plague [+ Abuse EP]
Southern Lord
Hardrocky punky metal, quick short songs,
Motorowl
Om Generator
Century Media
Melodic metal, kind of proggy and a little bit of a throwback vibe going into some sabbathy doom type stuff.
BANGLADEAFY
Narcopaloma
Nefarious Industries
Instrumental stuff, a bit fusion-ish, a maybe little bit of djent (cuz of the major slappa da bass) Good grooving stuff.
Medevil
Conductor of Storms
Self-Release
Melodic metal a little thrashy, a bit like something like, Metal Church?
MY REGIME
Dogmas
Scarlet Records
Heavy raw thrash… great stuff!
SURGIKILL
Sanguinary Revelations LP
HELLS HEADBANGERS
Brutal blackened death metal. mostly death metal, a raw black metal feeling, but not overpoweringly “black metal” Classic death metal stuff going on with a decent groove.
Dark Forest
Beyond the Veil
Cruz Del Sur Music
Power metal meets folk metal, a good galloping beat with some folky metal stuff happening here and there.
Human Compost
From The Grave They Crawl
Horror Pain Gore Death Productions
Good meaty death metal, brutal, heavy but with a thick groove too
ANEWRAGE
ANR – Deluxe
This reminds me a little bit of Static X or some other solid rock type band, maybe without as much electronic sounding, but just heavy-ish and catchy with a commercial metal/rock feel too. It’s good n catchy.
Band: Forsaken Peddlers
Album: Songs Of Fate And Freedom
Label: Heathen Tribes
Doomy metal with clean sung vox
Nox (Columbia)
Ancestral Arte Negro 7″ EP
Forever Plagued
Classic evil/cold black metal
Antiquus Scriptum
In Pulrverem Reverteris
Elegy Records
Classic black metal some doom
FETAL AUTOPSY
Backwoods Bloodshed
Meathook Records
Good meaty brutal death metal
Anaal Nathrakh
Depravity Favours the Bold – radio single
Metal Blade Records
Just one song so far, but I’ve always called these guys kitchen sink metal, as they throw in everything and it’s just a brutal wall of hellish metal. This song is more of that. good stuff.
