New Stuff This Week… 9/19/16

King 810
La Petite Mort or A Conversation With God
Roadrunner
I thought I remembered these guys being a bit heavier, while yeah, this has a big heavy meaty sound, the tempo seems a bit slow-doomish, or that slow buildup which doesn’t really ever really hit that big heavy breakdown, heavy part.  I feel like I’m missing something.   Either way, it’s still got a heavy feel.

Heaven Below
Good Morning Apocalypse
EMP
Kind of a classic metal meets a bit of a more new-ish commercial metal type thing.  Decent, but nothing really standy

Airbourne
Breakin Outta Hell
Spinefarm
Well, these guys haven’t changed much over the years, keeping that AC/DC hard rockin’ sound alive!

TYKETTO
Reach Radio Edit – RADIO SINGLE
Frontiers Music s.r.l.
Classic AOR type rock on this single.  Decent stuff.

The Agonist
Five
Napalm Records
Similar to what they’ve done in the past, a good mix of melodic death with the clean and harsh famale vox

Every Time I Die
Single
Epitaph Records
Catchy metalcore, great riffage, good energy, and yeah!

Epica
The Holographic Principle
Nuclear Blast USA
From the band that really defines this genre… Epic metal, heavy, and just a big full sound with big female vox, orchetration and a great gritty edge… they do not disappoint once again.

Watts
The Black Heart Of Rock N Roll
Rum Bar Records
Kind of an old school AC/DC type rock n roll.

Band: Aggravator
Album: Sterile Existence
Country: USA
Label: Dead Center productions
Heavy catchy classic thrash.  Good stuff

Source
Return to Nothing
Pavement Entertainment
So, do you like Tool?  Do you like Porcupine Tree?  I think I have the band for you!  And it’s pretty good.  Not super heavy, but great groove, catchy stuff, and proggy too.

Charred Walls of the Damned
Creatures Watching Over the Dead
Metal Blade Records
So glad to have a new release from this band.  So much talent and a great flavor of metal that just isn’t represented enough.  Kind of a heavy power metal.  Ripper Owens still providing vocals… catchy, heavy, and big screamy vox.  Meedly guitars, and solid drumming.  Great stuff all around.

Allegaeon
Proponent for Sentience
Metal Blade Records
A few singles came out ahead of the full album release, and you could already tell this album was going to be great… Every track is solid, heavy, catchy, techy, brutal, and even the Rush Cover of “Subdivisions” is a gem.  This album shot up to the top of my best of 2016 list… this is awesome.

Band: The Kreoles
Album: “Psycho”
Label: Sliptrick records
So nice when the short description of the band says it all:  “Style: Female fronted Rock / Metal”   Yup.  Not too heavy, just straight ahead rock with female vox.  Yup.

Division Vansinne
DIMENSION DARKNESS (Full Length)
Black Lion Records
Good brutal death metal and a headbanging groove.

TRUE WIDOW
AVVOLGERE
Relapse
Doom, downtempo, slow, depressing.  sigh.

The Holeum
Negative Abyss
Lifeforce
kind of a melodic post-metal dark ambient thing with a little bit of a hardcore-ish thing

Almah
E.V.O
Test Your Metal Records
We liked the last release, and I like this one.  Former Angra front man’s “new” band… now on thier 3rd album.  Good classic metal/power/prog metal from Brazil.

Darkwell
Moloch
Massacre Records
Kind of a gothy female fronted metal/rock.

Insomnium
Winter’s Gate
Century Media
This is some big epic proggy melodic death… it’s one track and 40 minutes long on the nose.   Great stuff, but probably not toooo radio friendly! haha.

Predatory Light
Predatory Light
Invictus Productions
Melodic death… mostly on the brutal death metal side, great melodic blackend guitar stuff.  Good one here!

NEUROSIS
Fires Within Fires
Neurot Recordings
Oh boy… notoriously not one of my favorite bands… they carry the flag for the style of Post metal that I really do like the least, so it’ll be hard for me to even think about liking this.  And now listening to it.  Depressing, yet melodic and to me?  boring. My opinon still stands.

Sin of God
AENIGMATA  (Full Length)
LABEL    Satanath Records & Murdher Records
Good brutal evil death metal.

Band: Númenor
Album: Sword and Sorcery + Bonus MCD
Label: Stygian Crypt productions
Epic power metal, not really unlike Epica.  A great heavier almost death metal edge, more into melodic death metal.  Great epic thing going on too.. best of both worlds.  Great stuff.

BRAIN TENTACLES
Brain Tentacles
Relapse
Some instrumental stuff, kind of a metallica Jass and experimental with some horns and really proggy type stuff.   It has a little bit of a dark down feeling, but yet, maybe a pinch of a Mr. Bungle feel.

Band: Stojar
Album: At Twilight of Battles By The Hammer Of Thunderstorms
Label: Stygian Crypt productions
This is that style of folk metal that has all that accordion/keyboard stuff, but stays pretty heavy, while maintaining that little bouncy sound.

OKKULTOKRATI
Raspberry Dawn
Southern Lord
Kind of sludgey, kind of atmospheric black metal, kind of doomy maybe a little punk.  It’s a bit out there

Band: The Extinct Dreams
Album: Fragmenty vechnosti
Label: Stygian Crypt productions
Funeral doom long songs.  meh.

SUMERLANDS
Sumerlands
Relapse
A heavier hard rock thing, bordering on prog

These guys… been a while since their last album.  They keep the true power/prog metal torch going… melodic catchy, not super heavy, but well put together songs that are complex, but not overdone.
