New stuff this week… 2/6/12

Motorhead
The World Is Ours Vol 1 Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else CD/DVD
UDR Music
http://www.imotorhead.com/
This is a DVD/CD from the last “World is Ours” tour including the full show from a date in Chile.  Lots of interviews, bonus stuff and of course a 2 CD Set.  Sounds great, has a good raw, yet polished sound as only Motorhead can do.

The 11th Hour
Lacrima Mortis
Napalm Records

Kind of a doomy, sludgey thing, yet melodic, almost Opeth-like in execution.  One reason for bringing out the Opeth comparison… the songs are pretty long and dynamic, you know, going from quiet parts to heavier passages.

Vendetta
Feed the Extermination
Massacre Records

Kind of a basic meat and potatoes basic metal band.  I only say basic… it’s hard to throw these guys in some sub-genre other than saying… these guys are just “Metal!”  Classic metal, leaning towards thrash… catchy riffs, similar to Sacred Reich I guess.  Good stuff!

Laura Wilde
Sold My Soul
Vice Grip Media

This is almost like some classic Blondie, almost punk-ish, go-gos meets a punk band?   Not really that fitting for our show on WORT.

Psycroptic
The Inherited Repression
Nuclear Blast
http://www.psycroptic.com/
Brutal, catchy, technical, thrashy… something really great from these guys.  Lots of monster riffs, complex arrangements yet being all brutal and catchy at the same time.  Vocals are abrasive and really fit the music.  This could be their best yet!

Orange Goblin
A Eulogy for the Damned
Candlelight Records
http://www.orange-goblin.com/
One of the better stoner metal bands out there… they don’t really wuss out too much, just good old heavy stoner metal without really getting into the doom or grindy abrasive stuff.  This is probably an album you can just listen to all the way through and nod to yourself at the end and go “yeah, that was cool”

Karnak Seti
In Harmonic Entropy
Unsigned (Viral Propaganda PR)
http://www.myspace.com/karnakseti
This is one of those unsigned bands that just has a PR firm getting the word out… and I got it… good stuff.  This is kind of a melodic death/thrash metal thing.  While there are some abrasive almost death moments, it’s more on the melodic death thing.  Catchy riffs, driving drums and abrasive, not quite cookie monster vocals.  They are out of Portugal, so while they don’t have that whole Swedish thing happening, they sound like they could be.

Kiros
Lay Your Weapons Down
Ain’t No Grave
http://www.kiros.com/
Right off the bat, I can’t say this is great Mosh Pit material… they’ve played on Warped Tour.  Wikipedia has them down as PopPunk.  And yeah, that’s probably right.  It’s just too mainstream sounding.  I feel like I would need to wear skinny jeans if I were to listen to this anymore.

Goatwhore
Blood for the Master
Metal Blade
http://www.goatwhore.net/
Southern fried blackened thrash at its best!  One of the best named bands in all of metal put out another great album!  Riffs galore, brutal vocals and catchy as all hell.  It really makes you just want to shove around in a circle pit!
