New Stuff This Week… 8/11/14

DragonForce
Maximum Overload
Metal Blade Records
Hey, it’s Dragonforce… over the top metal!  The first single had some melodic death riffs and vibe, the rest seems to be the normal Dragonforce that we all know and love. Fast guitar riffage, over the top vocals and fast fast fast!  This is the first time they’ve worked with a producer, and I guess songs are a bit shorter and to the point.

UPON A BURNING BODY
The World Is My Enemy Now
Sumerian
Catchy brutalcore or maybe melodic death stuff, with a bit of a djent Meshuggah vibe.  A great mix of all of those genres without really picking one of them, it takes the good stuff from each of those and has their own spin.

Incite
Up In Hell
Minus Head
Ritcie Cavalera’s band, and yeah, it does sound a bit like a Soufly/Sepultura, but really more on the heavy thrashy side of things. Decent new release, big meaty catchy brutal riffs and screamed vocals.

Heartist
Feeding Fiction
Roadrunner
I’m not sure I’m liking this direction Roadrunner is taking with their modern pop metal bands lately.  Emo singy vocals on this metalcore, warped tour type band.  At its base, the riffs and music seem cool with some prog elements, but the almost auto-tune sounding vocals are a deal breaker for me.  sigh. I guess not every song sounds auto-tuney, but it does have a similar formula.

Chemical Misuse
Follow The Light
Outspoken Records
A basic standard melodic metal/hard rock thing with some proggy undertones.  Has a bit of a local metal band vibe.

Unisonic
Light Of Dawn
Eagle Rock Entertainment
Michael Kiske’s band with some PC69 members and Kai Hansen with a power metal flavored feel.  More or less a standard metal thing, no real ball busting metal tracks here, just some sing-along and decent classic metal type stuff.

ID
Philosofía
Self-Released
Kind of a death metal thing, modern metal, a bit of melodic stuff, catchy brutal stuff, growly vocals.

Shaved Women
Just Death
Ektro
Raw punk stuff.  meh.

ABSYMAL LORD
Storms of Unholy Black Mass (12″ MLP)
Hells Headbangers
Sludgey, smooshy production, raw black/death metal… my ears are fatigued just trying to figure out what’s going on.

Protokult
No Beer In Heaven
Self Released
Folk/Pagan metal from Toronto.  Heavy, proggy catchy songs with that folky accordion/flutey/fiddle stuff going on, but yet, still metal and bouncy at the same time.
