New Stuff This Week…5/18/15

Lamb of God
“Still Echoes” (Single)
Epic
Well, we got the first single from Lamb of God… and it’s great!  You know what this band sounds like, this track captures it all, and Randy’s vox are top notch and 100% abrasive.  Sounds like he’s gargling gravel and it’s awesome. Catchy and brutal.

Between the Buried and Me
The Coma Machine & Memory Palace – radio singles
Metal Blade Records
Well, we already had a single for Memory Palace, now we have one for Coma Machine… and they are just the new kings of Prog… there I said it.  Not quite as brutal as they used to be in the past… now they seem to be in full on prog metal mode.

Coal Chamber
Rivals
Napalm Records
I always thought Coal Chamber was alright, lots of catchy tunes with bass and stuff… kind of like a Poor man’s Korn back in the day, but with their own unique sound… now here we are again, after a bunch of Devildriver records and back to Coal Chamber for Dez (for now)  So as much as I’d love it to be heavy like Devildriver, this is a pretty striaghtforward more-like metalcore type stuff… a more mature Coal Chamber too I guess.  It does have that coal chamber sound, but more grown up.

Titans Eve
Chasing The Devil
Self-Release
PRetty cool proggy viking type metal. Good thrashy stuff going on, a good amon amarth melodic death thing too.

Addicted
Addicted
G Smith Music
Melodic hard rock type stuff.

Weedeater
Goliathan
Season of Mist
Some super down tempo fat meaty sludgy stoner metal, while a bit too slow/down tempo for what I prefer, this has something dark and “metal” enough to keep me interested.

Lillye
Lillye
RockFellaz
Female fronted hard rock/metal… probably an obvious comparison to Halestorm… a fairly accessible/commercial metal sounding thing with female vocals… more on the raspy sung style.

WHITESNAKE
The Purple Album
Frontiers Music
Re-recordings of old deep purple songs.  This modern production gives new life to these classics.

NELSON
Peace Out
Frontiers Music
Yes, this is THAT Nelson.  So yeah, still some classic AOR type stuff.  Proooobbbbably not for the Mosh Pit.

Entrails
Obliteration
Metal Blade Records
Well, with a name like Entrails, this is probably a band you won’t want to fuck with… *hits play*  Nope.  Brutal death metal!  A band from the early 90’s they were resurrected in 2008 and have been keeping it brutal ever since

TAU CROSS
Tau Cross (Radio Promo)
Relapse Records
Some basic metal, a bit like, oh, say Motorhead?  Sure.  Maybe a bit more of a heavier version?  Naw… more like a tribute?  Yeah… still pretty good though.

Vulcano
Bloody Vengeance
Greyhaze Records
1986 release, 2015 reissue… Let’s see… now this would be called thrash… back then total brutal death metal.  This is actually pretty decent, heavy deathy thrash (duh)  but for being about 30 years old, I think it holds up pretty good.

Mystifier
Goetia
Greyhaze Records
Kind of a blackened thrash… but more on a bit of a grindy black metal side of things.  A bit deeper in we get some good melodic doomy black metal too.

NIBIRU
Padmalotus
Argonauta Records
They say to file this under “Psych Ritual Sludge”  yeah… big wall of sludgy screamy drony noise.  4 reallly long tracks.  Not really for me, sorry.

TesseracT
Odyssey
Century Media
A live album showcasing that they can really pull off the shit they do on albums live.  Great proggy tech metal/rock with a good clean live sound too.

XUL
Extinction Necromance
Self-Release (Asher)
Fast techy melodic death metal.  There are a lot of common metal elements going on, but these guys have their own take on stuff and play shit fast fast fast and heavy! One of the best self released “other” releases this week.

Black Pestilence
Outsiders
Self released
Heavy brutal-ish thrash with maybe a pinch of punk and pinch of black metal.  Pretty cool mix of genres going on here and it works well together. good stuff.

Earth Crisis
The Discipline
Genre: Metal
Label: Bullet Tooth
Four song EP from these long time metallers.  Your standard metalled up hardcore stuff.  Still good to have something cool from these guys again.

Third Ion
13/8Bit
Glasstone Records
Proggy metal based on sci-fi an video game stuff, made up of some former Devin Townsend band members and Into Eternity.  Catchy prog metal, clean vocals… great stuff.

Heathen Beast
The Carnage Of Godhra
Self-Released
Black metal from India… just a 3 song ep, but they seem to mix black metal with some modern metal and a bit of some Indian music floating around in the background too.

Pale From Sunlight
Love Was Never an Option
Self-Released
Release Date: 19 April 2015
When I see the genre on this listed as: “Atmospheric/Depressive Black Metal” this is already going to be an uphill battle for me to like.  Yawwwnnn.  There are some moments where it’s blast beaty and faster, but it’s still drony and depressing.

Neck of the Woods
Neck of the Woods
Self Release
Deathy stoner metal with a groove.  I guess I should stay death metal with a bit of a stoner brutal vibe.  yeah.  Good stuff.

Inner Sanctum
Legions Awake
Self-Released
More metal from India!  This time it’s a melodic death/thrash type thing.  Brutal thrashy goodness, good production and a good groove.

Tormention
Chaotic Delusions
Murdher Records
Just some good ol catchy death metal… with oh, I guess some melodic stuff too.  Bonus… they’re from Sweden.

OSCULUM INFAME
The Axis of Blood
Battlesk’r
When I get a lot of black metal in a week, then listen to it all in a row, it gets to be a bit much, as a lot just sounds the same, and yeah… well, this one is just good ol classic black metal with some melody and brutality.  Good stuff.
