New Stuff This Week… 6/1/15

Leprous
The Congregation
Inside Out
Catchy proggy hard rock not really venturing too much into the metal realm, but maybe just getting into Tool-like territory.  Good prog metal stuff through.

Lorna Shore
Psalms
Density
we had the single a few weeks ago, now the full length.  Still great brutalcore stuff.  Nowadays, you almost expect this cool brutalcore to get into the whiney emo vox.  Not here.  100% brutal.

Nekrogoblikon
Heavy Meta
Mystery Box
Same as the Lorna Shore, we had the single a while back… now the full.  Catchy heavy thrashy melodic death stuff, reminds me a bit of Zimmer’s Hole.

The Darkness
Last of Our Kind
Kobalt
Fun high screamy vox’ed classic hard rock.  I think everyond kinda knows about The Darkness… they’re still at it.  Nothing too groundbreaking here, just some cool hard rockin’ party music.

Battlecross
Not Your Slave (Single)
Metal Blade
Take Thrash, turn it up a notch… heavy headbangin’ metal riffs galore and yeah, great stuff.  I want more!

Paradise Lost
The Plague Within
Century Media
I used to like these guys, then they got pretty soft (in my opinion)… now with more years and me being more open… they have kinda moved away from 100% gothy doom and into some more melodic death in addition to their gothy doom.  Great stuff and there are actually lots of dynamics keeping it all interesting.

My Sleeping Karma
Moksha
Napalm Records
Doomy instrumental stuff… kinda stoner, kinda just laid-back doomy rock.

BulletBoys
Elefante
Cleopatra Records
Not sure if they’ll ever top or live up to Smooth Up In Ya and their 80’s hey day.. but hey, what can you say.  The band is basically only Marq Torien… but really at this point in a career, if the only original member is the singer, I think you’re doing ok, right?   This album is chock full of classic hard rock songs

Helloween
My God-Given Right
Nuclear Blast Records
You know what you’re going to get with this band… yeah, they pretty much helped invent power metal and yup, that’s pretty much what we have here.  Decent sing-along german power metal.  The current lineup has been solid for over 10 years now.

Distant Sun
Dark Matter
Metalism Records
Kind of a catchy thrash along the lines of Iced Earth or Annihilator.

EBONILLUMINI
Arktos
Wickerman Recordings
A doomy chaotic atmospheric “something”  not sure what to say other than, oh, “experimental?”  sure, we’ll go with that.

OBESE
Kali Yuga
June 1st, 2015
Argonauta Records
Stoner metal… catchy riffs going on, a bit of a doomy feel, some abrasive vocals but not growled… sort of scream/sung.

AWE / VACANTFIELD / END
“Moerae” (split album)
Ill Damnation Productions
One track from each band here, each coming in about at 17 minutes.  Not sure if their just one track or all of their tracks just merged into one mp3… but Awe seems a bit of a doomy black metal, Vacanfield is melodic death/black metal and so is End.  All are decent melodic black/death metal.

TEETHGRINDER
Misanthropy
Lifeforce
Grindy death/thrash metal.

Coathanger Abortion
Observations of Humanity
Comatose Music
With a band name like this, I was expecting some brutal death metal.  I was right.  A bit raw on the production side, but this is your meat and potatoes cookie monster death metal

Kastasyde
Gnosis
Self Release
Melodic death, good production a bit proggy musically in parts too.

Caustic Method
The Virus
Pavement Entertainment
A bit of a modern metal thing, like thrashy, almost Five Finger Death Punch stuff… it’s heavy, catchy, but just has a bit of a commercial feel to it.  Decent stuff.

ANGAKOK
Angakok
Satanath Records
Doomy stoner metal

Cerebellion
Album Name: Regeneration
Self Released
A sort of proggy metal thing, mostly a little bit slower and melodic, but also poking a bit into sounding like Tool.

Encyrcle
Encyrcle
Unspeakable Axe Records
Trashy metal, catchy riffs, some classic metal and old school big metal screamy vox going on too.

TRIXTER
Human Era
Frontiers Music
New music from BulletBoys and Trixter this week?  WTF!?  Well… This is more of what they do best, catchy hard rockin’ stuff.  Sounds pretty good, vox are on par with some of the old stuff too.  This is fun to listen to.

Riverland
Spring
Inverse Records
I wasn’t sure if I was listening to the massage music channel on satellite radio or if I was reviewing metal releases.  Needless to say… this isn’t metal, and why am I even typing about it instead of just deleting it?

THE UGLY
Decreation
ViciSolum Productions
Swedish blackened death metal.  Good stuff, heavy, brutal, yet catchy in some parts too.

Possession (Belgium)
1585-1646
Iron Bonehead / Invictus
Old school screamy black metal.

My Life’s Despair
Invoked with Passion and Pain
Self-Released
Gothy black/doom metal with some screamy vocals, female vocals and growly stuff too. This one hits on a lot of metal genres and seems to do it alright. Worth checking out.

Far Beyond the Sunrise
Far Beyond the Sunrise
Famined Records
I’d call this brutal-core.  Heavy almost math metal sounding stuff, but for the most part, just getting into some metalcore that’s extra heavy.

Fragile Existence
Cataclysms and Beginnings
Self released
Melodic Death Metal, nothing really remarkable, other than it’s good stuff.

Decomposing Entity
So It Begins
Perennity Records
Good death metal with a bit of a black metal thing going on too… very brutal sounding
