New Stuff This Week… 2/8/16

MAGRUDERGRIND
II (NA Promo)
Relapse Records
Song less than 2 minutes long, fast intense brutal grindy stuff.  Screamy vox, not a lot of time to fuck around, kind of reminds me of all of the stuff that came from Relapse records back in the day.

Gehennah
Too Loud to Live, Too Drunk to Die
Metal Blade Records
Thrashy old school sound… maybe a heavier or similar style/sound to Motorhead.  In your face, but not all brutal or growly… just pissed off hard rock and rool with some groovin’ riffs.

AntropomorphiA
Necromantic Love Songs
Metal Blade Records
Basic old school growly cookie monster death metal with a little doomy feel.  This is a Reissued/Remastered EP originally from 1993

Deftones
“Prayers/Triangles” [Single]
Warner Bros
I’ve never been a big fan of these guys… their last album was ok, but this single, just sounds like their usual drivel.

Silver Snakes
Saboteur
Evil Ink
A hard rocky thing… probably a bit like Filter or NIN… this band founded by the guy that was in the crust/hardcore band Cathedrals.

Prong
X-No Absolutes
SPV
Classic catchy Prong sound… no one really sounds like Prong and that’s a good thing.  Has some elements from Cleansing, Prove You Wrong and Rude Awakening going on… great stuff!

Delain
Lunar Prelude
Napalm Records
Melodic female fronted metal.  A bit on the prog/symphonic metal side musically, and clean operatic vocals as usual for Delain.  Music is a bit synthy in parts and some live tracks on this EP

Adept
Sleepless
Napalm Records
Dejenty modern metalcore type stuff.  Reminds me a little bit of Unearth in parts, but this one gets into some clean stuff and clean singy vox too.

Fleshgod Apocalypse
King
Nuclear Blast
This might be what Dimmu Borgir might sound like if they still made music!  But say you mixed up their older more brutal stuff with Behemoth… yeahhhh  This is some awesome stuff.

Syka
Stay Wild (EP)
Manhattan Center Productions Inc.
Femaled fronted hard rock, almost like if Gwen Stefani became a hard rock singer.

Wishing Well
Chasing Rainbows
Inverse
Some classic hard rock… maybe like if Iron Maiden all of a sudden became a rock band instead of a metal band.  Vocals sound like Bruce a bit, and it’s just some classic hard rock type stuff.

Illusions Dead
Celestial Decadence
Self-Release
Kind of black metal, kind of death metal… maybe a little pinch of doom… just because of some meaty riffs and a general groovin’ tone… but yeah, blackened death metal.

MY SILENT WAKE
AN UNBROKEN THRENODY (2005 – 2015)
Label: Stone Groove Records
Classic doom metal with a little bit of a 70’s prog throwback.

Band: Department Of Correction / Agathocles
Album: –
Label: Give Praise records
DoC is kind of good grindy death metal.  Agathocles is one track of sludgey noisy death metal.

Band: Department Of Correction | Proletar
Album:
Label: Give Praise records
DoC… grindy fast death metal.  Proletar, is some more death metal with a little bit of a grind, but more on the raw death metal side of things.

Septagon
Deadhead Syndicate
Cruz Del Sur Music
Kind of a melodic thrash but a bit of a prog metal… almost a proggier Anthrax… great power proggy thrash.

Ravensire
The Cycle Never Ends
Cruz Del Sur Music
Some just “Metal”  melodic, a bit of a NWOBHM feel, some Maiden-like stuff… pretty cool overall.

The Erkonauts
I Did Something Bad
Kaotoxin Records
Some metal, a little bit of punk, some proggy metal, a good mix of all sorts of stuff.  Quiet slow parts, some heavier maybe doomy stuff and a pinch of a punk raw feel in a few parts (not all the time)

MOUNTAIN TAMER
MOUNTAIN TAMER
Argonauta Records
Kind of a stoner hard rock type thing with little bit of a doomy feel.

SHIVERS ADDICTION
Choose Your Prison
Label: Revalve Records
Thrashy classic metal, a little bit of a power metal hint, but overall, your traditional metal.

CENTRILIA
Memento Mori
Self-Released
Melodic death/thrash… pretty cool stuff, great riffs, catchy and heavy

VIOLENT X
Chemical Insomnia
Violent X Productions
Thrashy death metal.  Good and brutal, yet catchy, thrashy and a little bit melodic too.

Valyria
Steel Inquisition [single]
Self-Release
Why must one of the cooler things this week just be a single?  Kind of a symphonic melodic death thing with a pinch of folk metal (vocal-wise)  The clean vox are ok (almost an emo sound) but the  death vox are spot on and brutal.

Maiden Cane
“Dead Man’s Shoes”
early 90’s cheesy hard rock. (thankfully, just a single)  While it’s probably ok, just not really for the Mosh Pit.

Throes
Koro
Label: Independent
Meaty sludgey doomy metal.  Good distorted sludgey sound, so it’s not all totally depressing, some cool solos, a bit of a groove too.

SORROW PLAGUES
Sorrow Plagues
Self Released
Kind of an atmospheric black metal.  A little old school in the black metal parts, a little heavy on the synthy stuff, it’s a bit overpowering throughout.
