New Stuff This Week… 2/22/16
Anvil
Anvil is Anvil
SPV
Great classic metal with a little thrash… catchy and fun…
Birth of Joy
Get Well
Long Branch
Doomy classic stoner hard rock type stuff. A little bit of a Trouble/Ghost feel to it. Maybe a 70’s Deep Purple thing going on too.
Redemption
The Art of Loss
Metal Blade Records
Great to have another album by these guys…. Prog metal! Not quite as heavy and techincal as some past releases, but a great prog metal album.. wrapping up with a 22 minute epic that does get full on technical, heavy and prog metal as you can get.
Casket Robbery
Evolution of Evil
Mortal Music
Local death metal band… new album is sick, brutal, catchy and not fucking around. Great to have these guys from right here in town.
The Unguided
Lust And Loathing
Napalm Records
Starting off as some prog metal, then what? growls? So I would say this is a mix of some melodic death and some metal core all with that Prog word in front of it. (I think it’s the keyboards and well technical proggy stuff that makes it prog, right? yeah)
ENTOMBED A.D
Dead Dawn
Century Media Records
2nd album from this new iteration of Entombed… and it’s a good release of Death n Roll type stuff.
The Novelists
Souvenirs
Metalville Records
A bit Djenty and a bit hardcore and yeah, a bit proggy too, technical but witwh a metalcore feel.
Holy Grail
Times Of Pride And Peril
Prosthetic Records
Technical proggy thrash metal / classic metal with clean vox and almost sing-a-longy type stuff. Great technicality and catchiness as well as lots of great metal riffing.
A.H.P.
Against Human Plague
Via Nocturna
Kind of a black metal and a bit of a death metal thing… A good evil/dark feel, but with some decent guitar melodies breaking through the pissed off vocals and brutal drumming
Goatcraft (Slovakia)
Olethros
Iron Bonehead
Old school atmospheric-ish black metal. Not so great production, a raw evil sound from hell type black metal.
Asphodelus
Dying Beauty & the Silent Sky 12″ MLP
Iron Bonhead
Melodic black metal, 3 song EP with an intro. Decent contrast between heavy and light… seemingly almost equal time, kinda like Opeth but a bit more raw on the black metal stuff in the heavier parts.
Infernal Curse
Apocalipsis LP
Iron Bonehead
Dark evil grindy black metal, short, heavy and brutal tracks with a bit of a groove and heavy atmospheric feel.
REDWEST
Crimson Renegade
Kind of a folky hard rock/metal thing. Almost like if you took away the heavier metal stuff from Amorphis… you’d maaaybe have this. Almost folky country metal.
High Priest of Saturn
Son of Earth and Sky
Svart Records
Doomy atmospheric “metal” creepy vocals, big meaty riffs and a hammond organ add to the throwback feel.
Band: Efpix
Album: Evil Sides
Label: Sliptrick records
A bit melodic death metal, a bit industrial/electronic. They’re from Russia, so there’s a little bit of that “russian” feel to it. Probably a bit too much on the industrial/electronic side for the Mosh Pit. There’s still a decent metal edge to it though.
Black Twilight Circle
Desert Dances and Serpent Sermons
Iron Bonehead / The Ajna Offensive
Melodic black metal, some a bit brutal, some atmospheric and ambient and maybe a bit “post metal”… tracks are a bit long
Band: Ekram
Album: Last Man Standing
Label: Sliptrick records
Metal edged melodic hard rock. A little bit of a grunge feel, but a good catchy groove…clean vox going into some screamy stuff too. I wouldn’t call this metalcore, as it’s more of a melodic metal that gets edgy in parts and lighter and anthemic-rock in parts. Cool stuff, but maybe not for the Mosh Pit.
Band: Black Sleep
Album: The Whales of the Grey Sea
Label: Sliptrick records
Melodic metal with a little bit of a gothy doom feel. Clean and harsh vox.
Folteraar
Vertellingen van een donkere eeuw LP
Iron Bonehead
Classic black metal with a grindy sounding guitar.
Temisto
Temisto
Pulverised
More of a straightforward blackened death metal. Good heavy vibe and groove with good heaviness… I’m liking this.
Total Hate
Lifecrusher
Eisenwald
And this is some cool melodic blackened death metal. A dark, evil black metal feel, but a heavy deathy groove. Vox are abrasive, constant evil black metal riffage and great groovin’ musical breaks… another cool one.
Krater
Urere
Eisenwald
Seems like a lot of black metal this week… This is fast heavy brutal blackened death variety. Fast evil stuff with no fuckin’ around.
WAKE
Sowing The Seeds Of A Worthless Tomorrow
Sentient Ruin / Everyday Hate / 7 Degrees / Nerve Altar
Heavy deathy metal with maybe a pinch of black metal thrown in. Cool brutal stuff which has maybe a little grindy stuff too.
Frozen Ocean
The Prowess Of Dormition
Apocalyptic Witchcraft
Kind of a classic black metal thing going on… a bit repetetive in parts, but it’s got that cold guitar, classic stuff.
DEATHLESS LEGACY
The Gathering
Scarlet Records
Seems like some female fronted proggy hard rockin’ metal. A little gothy, a bit metal, a bit prog.
Knockout Kid
Manic
Label: Bullet Tooth
A bit of a modern metalcore thing. Cool melodic, almost proggy music, but the vocals are that modern clean singy stuff. So, while it’s decent, I’m pretty sure a troo metal fan will poopoo on this.
Band: Black Sleep
Album: The Whales of the Grey Sea
Label: Sliptrick records
Sort of a goth / melodic metal with a little bit of a groove and atmospheric feel.
Bombus
Repeat Until Death
Century Media
Modern solid rock type metal, a tiny bit of a Rob Zombie feel. Mostly melodic hard rock with a punchy groove.
Band: Overunit Machine
Album: Aldaraja
Label: Sliptrick records
Electronic-ified hard rock. Sounds more on the solid rock side of things, decent catchy melodic hard rock being filled out by some keyboards.
Band: Seventh
Album: The Herald
Label: Sliptrick records
Doomy growly post-metal. While most post-metal to me is pretty agonizing, this one isn’t quote drony all the time, and just feels more like melodic doom.
Band: The Burning Dogma
Album: No Shores Of Hope
Label: Sliptrick records
Described as “death metal / dark electro” I can hear a melodic death thing going on, we also have a track or two with some female vox, but overall, this is some good brutal-ish melodic death/death with a bit of keyboard just filling in the background (it’s not too prominent) Overall this is come cool stuff!
Plateau Sigma
Rituals
AvantGarde Music
I guess this could be called some classic doom metal. Some growly, downtempo stuff, some clean vox and overall dark and depressing.
Band: The Road Vikings
Album: Requiem Of An Outlaw Biker
Label: Sliptrick records
Cool catchy hard rockin’ biker metal. A bit melodic, but a crunch to it which makes you want to go hang out at a biker bar and smash beer bottles agains the wall.
Sorizon
End of Entrapment EP
Self Released
So this will be like power/prog metal with screamy clean vox, with some heavier prog metal music, then there’s one track that’s just brutal with growly vox… it doesn’t fit, but it’s awesome
DEAD EDITION
Network Failure
Farn Black Productions
I guess I’d call this melodic death. Musically it’s got that diverse melodeath thing… vocally, it’s all growly/shouted, so not quite cookie monster death metal… great grooves going on here too. Great stuff.
Band: Dimlight
Album: The Lost Chapter
Label: Sliptrick records
A proggy epic melodic death type thing… growly vox, female clean vox, orchestral/keyboard type stuff to give it that epic feel. Not quite as black metal as a Cradle of Filth, but there’s a similar feel… maybe breaking into a little bit of a goth thing too.
TENDONITIS
Stormreaper
Label: Self-released
Good ol “metal” a bit of a Judas Priest feel vocally, a bit more of a melodic standard metal thing maybe with a tiny bit of a thrashy edge to it.
Band: Wastage
Album: Slave To The System
Label: Sliptrick records
Heavy brutal-ish thrash from Slovakia. Catchy quick songs with no messing around, great solos and a great metal groove too. Vocals are abrasive and almost growly. Funny, like 20 years ago, this would probably would have been called death metal, now it’s just some heavy thrash! hah.
HYPERION
Seraphical Euphony
Black Lion Productions
A nice full brutal epic blackened melodic death. There’s full on technical brutality… this might be my favorite release of the week. It’s got the melody, brutal drumming, great production, proggy death metal… great stuff.
VERRÄTER/SXUPERION
Verräter/Sxuperion
Label: BloodyMountain Records & Sordid Curse Productions
Verrater is some classic old school creepy black metal… fast and raw. Sxuperion is raw, grindy brutal melodic black metal… some atmospheric stuff going on in parts… overall, raw and brutal.
SEROTONIN SYNDROME
Sarajas
Label: Self-released
Post-Metal/Rock, melodic, moody, doomy and in parts the vocals get all growly, but overall, it’s some melodic depressing doom.
Band: 4th’n’Goal
Album: Turn On The Light
Label: Sliptrick records
This band from Italy has a modern punk metalcore thing going on. probably more on the pop punk side of things… meh.
Band: Raff Sangiorgio
Album: Rebirth
Country: Italy
Label: Sliptrick records
Catchy melodic insrumetental metal, a little bit thrashy, but mostly some great guitar work, it’s staying a bit heavy and a great groove. Cool to see instrumental stuff get on a little heavier side.
