New Stuff This Week… 10/19/15

STRYPER
Fallen
Frontiers Music srl
Classic Stryper.  Not real any rippers on here, just some classic metal.

Twitching Tongues
Disharmony
Metal Blade Records
Kind of some hardcore but with gothy doom taking over.  A bit of a Type O/Life of Agony meets Hatebreed thing going on.  Not too many bands throwing those beats down.  Cool stuff.

With the Dead
With The Dead
Rise Above
Sludgey doom stoner metal with a bit boomy sound.

Coheed and Cambria
The Color Before the Sun
Roadrunner Records
Cool proggy rock… pretty much like all of their stuff.  Probably not really mosh pit material though.

Eye of the Destroyer
Methods of Murder
Self-Released
Brutal death metal, fast and frenetic, grindy and chugga chugga brutal.

Killing Joke
Pylon
Spinefarm
Kind of a post-punk/industrial/alt rock type thing.  They’ve been on the fringes of metal/hard rock, but still not quite ready for the Mosh Pit.

Counting Days
Liberated Sounds
Mascot
A bit thrash, hardcore and yeah, metalcore… cuz that’s what metalcore is right?  metal and hardcore mixed up with some melodic stuff too?  This throws in a bit of brutality, but mostly staying in the good metalcore area.

Amberian Dawn
Innuendo
Napalm Records
Female fronted power metal…fe-metal if you please..

Teramaze
Her Halo
Mascot Records
Melodic hard rock/proggy metal/hard rock.  Clean vox with catch metal edge in parts and definitely a prog metal thing going on too.

Circle II Circle
Reign Of Darkness
earMUSIC
In case you forgot this is that classic metal/power/prog metal band fronted by Zak Stevens who used to be Savatage’s frontman… Well, as power metal goes, this is good stuff as there’s a good metal edge, powerful vox, catchy and just good ol “metal”

Grave Digger
Exhumation, The Early Years
Napalm Records
Looks like this is a compilation of stuff they dug up from the old days… then re-recorded them to give them some new life and show that modern production does make a difference.  These songs sound great and this band has been doing classic German metal the right way a very long time.

Infected
Infected (Single)
Dark Star Records
Industrial… sounds like this could have almost come from the Matrix soundtrack a buncha years ago.

ZOMBI
Shape Shift (NA Promo)
Relapse Records
Proggy stuff with lots of keyboards, kind of reminds me of the 80’s Rush years.  This is all instrumental, so if you like the Signals, Power WIndows or Grace Under Pressure era Rush, you’ll dig this.

Moloken
All is Left to See
Temple of Torturous
Blackened doom.

Bauda
Sporelights
Temple of Torturous
Kind of a proggy pop rock type thing.

SUMA
Ashes
Argonauta Records
Sludgey stonery doomy metal.  You got some really long tracks on here too.  So get your work boots on, the sludge is deep!

Apparatus
Apparatus
Lavadome Productions
Creepy doomy black metal…

Odium
Failure II
Self-Release (Asher)
Heavy yet melodic, proggy and catchy.  Brutal shit going on, yet a melodic death thing happening too. I just started reviewing stuff, but I think this is going to be my “other” pick this week.

Onirik (Portugal)
Casket Dream Veneration CD/LP
Iron Bonehead / Altare
Old school classic black metal… a bit doomy.

Broken Teeth
Bulldozer
Texas Metal Underground
Classic hard rock… maybe a bit like an AC/DC type band, but with more of a classic metal sound and a bit more melodic.

PROPAGANDA
The Mask Of Sanity
Brute! Productions
Brutal Death metal with an emphasis on the BRUTAL.  Cookie Monster growling and gurgling,

ANAL FISSURE
Mind Of A Serial Killer
Brute! Productions
What can you expect from a band with this name?  Well, just like the Propaganda above, it’s full on brutal death metal which is never a bad thing.  This one throws it all at you with song titles and presumably lyrics too. “Swarming Vile”, “Rectal Bludgeoning” and “Sodomy Fundamentals” to name a few.

Alien Syndrome 777
Outer
Avantgarde Music
I think this label typically gets bands that match up with their label name… so yeah, the style of this band falls into the Avant-garde Black metal.  You got your classic Black metal sound along with some clean gothy vox and sound too.

MORTAL TORMENT
Cleaver Redemption
Gore House Productions
Classic brutal death metal, good clean production and just a great chugga chugga cookie monster sound and a bit of a blackened death thing going on too.

HORNWOOD FELL
Yheri
Avantgarde Music
Mostly classic black metal, maybe a bit of an avant garde thing and atmospheric stuff going on too.

ABSCONDITUS
Kat?ßas??
I, Voidhanger Records
Fast fast fast old school black metal.

Nuclear
Formula for Anarchy
Candlelight Records
Classic heavy thrash, a bit like Slayer vocally, a bit more catchy musically.

OTARGOS
Xeno Kaos
Kaotoxin
Blackened death, blackened black metal?  haha  Heavy wall of sound black metal with some death brutality in there too.  You want a bit of melodic proggy stuff too?  Yeah!  So blackened melodic death metal it is.

New Stuff This Week… 10/12/15

Whitechapel
The Brotherhood of the Blade
Metal Blade Records
Brutal technical and while most of the time a death metal band won’t get a great sound live, it’s cool to kind of hear what it really could sound like with this live album.  Great stuff.

Saxon
Battering Ram
UDR Music
Classic metal from one of the bands that helped invent classic metal!  Great stuff, still keeping it heavy yet melodic and cool.

Ugly Kid Joe
Uglier Than They Used To Be
Metalville Records
Great to have these guys back doing a new album.. not quite as unique or catchy as their original EP it’s still got a good melodic hard rock quality to it and if it gives them an excuse to tour too?  All the power to ’em.

Kill Ritual
Karma Machine
Scarlet Records
Proggy melodic metal.  Good edge to it, a bit thrashy, but overall just some decent “metal”

Madame Mayhem
Now You Know
Headball Records/71st Street Music
Female fronted classic metal

Dog Fashion Disco
Ad Nauseam
Rotten Records
The first two tracks are fairly straightforward hard rock/metal… then by track three we get into more of the classic DFD with keyboard/accordion sounds and the catchy Mr. Bungle like stuff. A decent album in only the way DFD can do it.

So Hideous
Laurestine
Prosthetic Records
Melodic doomy post-metal. A bit black metal, some atmospheric symphonic type stuff, and yeah, post metal noisy doom stuff too.

Aosoth / Order of Orias
Split 12″MLP
W.T.C.Productions
Aosoth and Order of Orias are both in at one long song each… Aosoth is brutal black metal with some melodic stuff happening, Order of Orias is some doomy black/death metal

ZOMBI
Shape Shift (Radio Promo)
Relapse Records
Proggy instrumental hard rock… some electronic stuff going on which gives it a bit of a Miami Vice theme song vibe, but pretty cool.. I’m interested in what else they have on this new release. (this is just a single)

With the Dead
“Living With the Dead”
Rise Above
Sludgey melodic stonery type stuff with crusty noise too.

Sadistik Exekution
30 Years of Agonizing the Dead LP
Nuclear War Now! Productions
Compliation of this band’s 30 years… classic raw death metal with some grindy stuff going on

Grave
Out Of Respect For The Dead
Century Media
Classic grooving death metal.  Just heavy and brutal, these guys have been around forever and know what they’re doing.  \m/

SADIST
Hyaena
Scarlet Records
Great catchy prog death metal kind of in the vein of later Death. Not a lot of stuff out there like this these days… if they do, they are more metalcore or get a bit too out there.  These guys kind of keep it in a Cynic/Death like thing… first album in 5 years and makes me want to go back and hear some older stuff.

SAILING TO NOWHERE
To The Unknown
Bakerteam Records
Melodic power/prog metal with male vocals by a guy that sounds like Hanzi Kursch from Blind Guardian and female vocals that sound pretty similar to that… both work well together… music is some proggy keyboarded heavy metal. pretty decent stuff… if you like Blind Guardian!

Murashita
Inescapable Damnation
Self-released
Technical deathy thrash metal.  Great catchy riffs, throwback thrash feel but still modern and brutal too.

HANGING GARDEN
Blackout Whiteout
Lifeforce
Doomy melodic gothy “metal”  a bit down tempo with clean depressing vox… ok it’s all depressing.

All Hell
The Red Sect
Horror Pain Gore Death Productions
Raw blackened death metal with a groove.  Good stuff with quick short songs

Evertrapped
Under The Deep
Hellstorm Recordz
Melodic death, good and brutal, technical and great production. Might be my “other” pick of the week…

Thy Worshiper
Ozimina
Arachnophobia Records
Doomy pagan metal, a bit folky in parts.  The real heavy stuff has some mushy production.

Atomic Symphony
Redemption
Label: Self-Released
Release Date: 11 September 2015
Genre: Progressive Metal | Country: Switzerland

Van Halst
Save Me (single)
Self-Release
Female fronted groovin’ metal that’s a bit melodic and maybe a little proggy.

CODE
Live in The Netherlands 2015
Heidens Hart
Avant-Garde type stuff with some Black Metal type stuff going on too.  I guess with all this diversity, one could say it’s a bit proggy.

Necrocosm
Damnation Doctrine
Self-Released
Technical melodic death metal… great stuff out of North Carolina!

ABSOLUTUS
Pugnare In Iis Quae Obtinere Non Possis
Belgium
Heidens Hart
Classic old school black metal

FOREFATHER
The Fighting Man
Heidens Hart
A little bit black metal, some melodic stoner type stuff, some folk/pagan metal, some viking stuff too.  A cool all around thing which I found myself listening to longer than a lot of the stuff I’ve been reviewing.

Elferya
Eden’s Fall
Self Released
Melodic female fronted power metal from Poland.  Some epic symphonic stuff going on… a bit on the “femetal” side of things, but still pretty heavy.

Flight
Flight
Bad Omen Records
Hard rock 70’s ish throwback… maybe something like Thin Lizzy or basic Deep Purple. Good stuff, but probably not for the Mosh Pit.

New Stuff This Week… 10/5/15

Wild Throne
Harvest of Darkness
Roadrunner Records
A sort of melodic metalcore/proggy metal thing with a Deftones feel.

Clutch
Psychic Warfare
Weathermaker
New Clutch!  This is more of a hard rockin feel with a big fat sound and catchy as hell.  Great stuff.

W.A.S.P.
Golgotha
Napalm Records
A new classic metal album from good ol Blackie Lawless and crew.  I’m hearing a pretty straightforward classic metal sound… nothing really going WHOA! WASP!!  But nothing horrible either… it’s almost a classic rock sound too.  Good stuff though.

Separations
Dream Eater
Imagen Records
Clean vox/growled vox and a catchy melodic metalcore.  A lot of different stuff going on… djent, hardcore, mallcore, brutalcore… yeah lots of cores.. melodicore electronicmetalicore whineyemovocalcore hashtagcore.  But then some songs are mostly brutalcore too… soo maybe to whineycore for the mosh pit but it’s pretty decent

Saber Tiger
Best Of
Cleopatra Records
A best of compilation for this Japanese thrash/metal outfit.  Around since the early 80’s and putting out new stuff until 2012… and still touring.  Great classic yet modern melodic metal.  I guess a best-of is a great starting point here!

Veronica Freeman
Now Or Never
Frontiers Records
Classic metal sound… female fronted, she sounds a bit like Blackie Lawless… great powerful voice with some rasp.

Any Given Sin
Forbidden
Resurrection Records
A classic sounding groove metal, a bit like a Black Label Society

MONSTER MAGNET
Cobras and Fire (The Mastermind Redux)
Napalm Records
Monster Magnet taking and totally re-doing an earlier album again… in this case, they rearrange their 2010 Mastermind album.  Not sure if it’s just writer’s block to rehash old stuff or what… either way, this re-do is kind of like a more psychedelic version.

NEVER TO ARISE
GORE WHORES ON THE KILLING FLOOR
CIMMERIAN SHADE RECORDINGS
Brutal death metal.. morbid song titles and I assume lyrics… fits the whole death metal persona thing, right?  Good stuff.

Malady
Malady
Svart Records
Psychedelic 70’s throwback prog rock… I guess I wouldn’t even call this metal, but it got sent via a metal and I already had the info copied here.  It’s pretty cool if you’re an ELP/Deep Purple fan.

Days Of Collapse
We Got This Far
Imminence Records
A raw punky metal/mathcore thing.  In your face.

Vantablack Warship
Self-Titled EP
Self-Release (Asher)
A heavier than thrash thrash with a bit of a Slayer gets some groove thing happening.

Dope Stars Inc.
The Saw Saga EP
Self Released on Bandcamp
Electronic hard rock type stuff… this is an “EP” of the songs they had on the Saw soundtracks…

ISLAY
Angels` Share
Final Gate Records
A cool catchy death metal with a bit of melodic stuff going on here and there… but overall, great brutal death metal.

THE UNDER
THE UNDER
SELF RELEASED
Proggy hard rock. With some great vox, prog rock underpinnings with some metal flourishes… probably deserves a deeper listen than I’m giving in my mini-review.

A bunch of stuff from Witching Hour records out of Poland hit the inbox at once… this stuff all came out a few weeks ago…
NON OPUS DEI
“Diabe?”
Melodic death/doom/black metal.

NOMAD
“Tetramorph”
Death metal with a little bit of black metal feel.  Good brutal hold your invisible orange up in the air kind of stuff.

SACRILEGIUM
“Sleeptime”
Old school crappy production black metal.

GRAVELAND
“Epilogue”
This is one of those things that might have promise if the production was a bit better… but it’s an old school black metal thing with a lot of a weird bass/guitar sound that just overwhelms.  meh.

HOLY DEATH
“Triumph Of Evil”
A trashy thing with an old school death metal feel.  One of the best of this bunch from Witching Hour.
