Dommin
Rise
Self-released
A gothy hard rock a bit like Volbeat

October Sky
Rise
Self-Released
Modern melodic “solid rock”  clean vox, almost over produced, melodic hard rock with a bit of a groove.

Kylesa
Exhausting Fire
Season of Mist
Doomy stoner post metal

Clutch
“Noble Savage” (single)
Weathermaker
Great rockin’ new Track… classic Clutch!

Trivium
Silence In The Snow
Roadrunner
Catchy moderm melodic thrashy metal like they’ve always done. Great riffs as usual, a bit on the wall of sound production side of things again, but it’s their thing and works.

Queensryche
Condition Human
Century Media Records
So this is the sophomore release of the new and improved Queensryche.  Funny how this band and Geoff Tate’s new stuff come out at almost the same time… makes for some easy comparison.  This is what I expect and WANT to hear from the same band that came out with Rage for Order or Mindcrime/Empire, etc.  Classic metal with prog tendencies… Todd LaTorre channels the old school Geoff Tate while going above and beyond and making his own mark.  Great stuff.

Deafheaven
New Bermuda
Epitaph Records
I guess you could say this is old school black metal meets a pinch of metalcore, some melodic prog rock (in small parts) and some post metal too.  This is just 5 long songs on this album.

Fit For An Autopsy
Absolute Hope, Absolute Hell
eOne Entertainment
Brutal metalcore with some proggy tech stuff going on

Children Of Bodom
I Worship Chaos
Nuclear Blast USA
It’s been a couple years… I’ve always been a fan and I think this new album kicks things up a notch.  A bit heavier and raw and still that classic Bodom sound.

Gloryhammer
Space 1992: Rise Of The Chaos Wizards
Napalm Records
Epic symphonic metal.  Get that invisible orange up to the sky and sing along with this epic metal of epic proggy power metal epicness. They call it “Heroic Fantasy Power Metal”  YEAH!!! Can you tell I’m ready for something like this?  it’s been a while since having an over the top, quality release like this.

Audiotopsy
Natural Causes
Napalm Records
Melodic metal with a little bit of proggy stuff going on.  A bit of a commercial feel, maybe a pinch of King’s X sound too.

For Today
Wake
Nuclear Blast USA
Melodic metalcore. Some parts are straight up hardcore, others more melodic stuff… good mix of the two.

With The Dead
“I Am Your Virus” (single)
Rise Above
Noisy stoner metal

De Profundis
Kingdom Of The Blind
Wickerman Recordings
A heavy brutal blackened death metal thing.  If you like Behemoth… you will like these guys.

BLEED
The Hatred Inside
Self-Release (Asher)
A bit thrash, a pinch of power metal, and some good ol classic metal.

Sepulcher
Mausoleum Tapestry
Edged Circle Productions
A bit thrashy, mostly black metal… blackened thrash metal?  Raw vox and raw sound.

Lux Ferre
Excaecatio Lux Veritatis
Altare Productions
Sludgy post black metal.

Procreation
Incantations of Demonic Lust for Corpses of the Fallen CD
Nuclear War Now! Productions
Raw thrashy death metal

Carma
Carma
Labyrinth Productions
Doomy black metal.

Repulsive Dissection
Church of the Five Precious Wounds
Sevared Records
Brutal death metal, crazy riffs, fast fast fast playing and full on brutal cookie monster.

Malevolent Creation
Dead Man’s Path
Century Media
Brutal death metal as they’ve always been good at doing!

Heart Of A Coward
Deliverance
Century Media
Sort of a death metal, a metalcore, tech deathcore type thing.

Solanum
Into The Sinner Circle
Horror Pain Gore Death
Raw old school thrash with some punk thrown in.

Denial (Mexico)
11°22?.?4’N 142°35?.?5’E 7″ EP
Blood Harvest
2 song ep of sludgey death metal.

EVIL ARMY
Violence and War (MLP)
Hells Headbangers
classic old school thrash with a bit of a raw sound.

Venefixion
Defixio TAPE
Iron Bonehead
Black metal with a bit of a Slayer feel in some of the riffage. Some melodic stuff and mostly brutal.

PROMETHEE
Unrest
Lifeforce
Proggy modern metalcore/thrash.  A cool melodic groovin’ undertone while keeping up a heavier metalcore thing up top.

Tetragrammacide
Typhonian Wormholes: Indecipherable Anti-Structural Formulæ 12″ MLP
Iron Bonehead
When I say raw production, I usually just mean it’s not polished production, but still good enough and listenable.  This is raw on steroids. I think the normal human range of hearing is 20hz to 20,000 hz.  I think this clocks in at 500-502 hz.  C’mon.  Someone running the EQ on the master recording of this needs a new line of work.

One Year Delay
Deep Breath
Pavement Entertainment
I’d throw this in the catchy commercial hard rock bin. Good stuff, good production, but probably just missing the cut to be on the mosh pit these days.

IMPLEXI
Safest Shelter
Label: Self-Released
This is some prog edged power metal from Brazil.  Good guitar work, a good metal feel (not all power metal sing-a-longy)

Killen
Killen
Sonic Age Records / Cult Metal Classics
A classic metal thing with an old school doomy glam metal feel.

Fates Warning
A Pleasant Shade of Gray (Expanded Edition)
Metal Blade Records
Great time to look back on this album.  3 Disc expanded edition… Disc 2 is live and 3 is some other unreleased/outtake/remix stuff.  At the time I thought this album was ok, a bit too slow for me… but over time it did grow on me… and now a chance to look back on it after all this time… gets better with age!

Vanlade
Rage of the Gods
Self Released (Online Metal Promo)
Classic thrash with some over the top vox.  Cool stuff.

FIERCE JUSTICE
FIERCE JUSTICE
Self Released
Classic standard metal.. it’s okay, but nothing really new.

New Stuff This Week… 9/21/15

Broken Hope
Live Disease at Brutal Assault
Century Media
Never sure what to expect from a death metal band doing a live album… I am pleasantly surprised at this one.  Great production/live mix… nice and clean.  This band is brutal death metal and now they have a recorded record that they pull this off live!

Haste The Day
Coward
Tooth and Nail
Mostly a modern metalcore thing, but we’re getting into some heavier stuff on here. A little djent, some screamo, some shouty stuff, melodic breaks… Probably a bit to “modern” or “post metal” for me, but there’s enough metal on the fringe to keep it ok.

Mindless Self Indulgence
PINK
Metropolis
This will probably fit Something Wonderful (the show before the MOsh Pit on WORT) more than ours, but I’ve always thought these guys were decent.  Fast uptemp “heavy” electronic stuff.  This is an album that was never really released before, but recorded a while back. Listen early in the Mosh Pit, or, maybe like REALLY early to hear it (say, on the show before ours?… yeah)

Parkway Drive
IRE
Epitaph
A bit of a hardcore meets groove… actually reminds me of a metalcore-ish Pro-Pain in a good way.

Exmortus
For The Horde (7″)
Prosthetic Records
Just two songs on this digital EP… these guys have the heavy thrashy brutal thing going on great, but then they mix in some traditional metal and it’s all awesome.

Leaves Eyes
King of Kings
AFM Records
These guys/gal have been consistent… kind of a very similar thing to Epica.  Epic symphonic metal mixed with some melodic death stuff too.

Huntress
Static
Napalm Records
Hard rock groovin’ classic female fronted metal.

Rocket Queen
Goodnight California
Fade To Silence Records
So, this is kinda of a hard rock thing with Green Day-like vox, and a bit of a poppy punk sound

Graveyard
Innocense & Decadence
Nuclear Blast USA
A groovin’ 70’s throwback stoner metal thing (just one song so far, but I’d like to hear more)

Denner / Shermann
Satan’s Tomb
Metal Blade Records
You know these guys from Mercyful Fate… well they wanted to make some music and teamed up with the singer from Cage and make four brand new great classic metal songs.  Catchy riffs, over the top yet still not “too much” vox…oh, and Snowy Shaw on drums!?  Great stuff!!

OPERATION: MINDCRIME
The Key
Frontiers Music srl
Or should this be called Geoff Tate 2.0?  Basically Geoff Tate’s melodic hard rock type stuff which is what he turned the later Queensryche and solo stuff into.  It’s not bad, but I prefer the heavier stuff.

SWAMP / FETID ZOMBIE
NECROMANTIC PASSAGES
MORBID VISIONS MUSIC
The Swamp is some pretty good raw brutal classic death metal.  Fetid Zombie is decent melodic proggy black metal

KRALLICE
Ygg Huur
Label: Avantgarde Music
A sort of screamy melodic black/death metal thing with some of those “Avant garde” tendencies.

Display of Decay
Dust of Existence
Self-Release ASHER
A good brutal groovin’ death metal.

Iniquitous Savagery
Subversions of the Psyche
Grindethic Records
Classic brutal death metal with maybe a little bit of Grind going on.  pretty good stuff.

Shrine of Insanabilis
Disciples of the Void
W.T.C.Productions
On the surface I guess you could say this is black metal, but it’s a bit more modern and brutal… so it doesn’t have that classic “cold” black metal thing going on.  It’s got a black metal feel while also being a bit melodic and deathy too.  Great stuff. So blackened death metal sure?  Compare to who?  I guess I’d say Behemoth.

Horna
Hengen Tulet
W.T.C.Productions
A sort of a classic black metal with a little bit of brutal thrash stuff.  These guys have been around since 1995… but this is the first I’ve heard of ’em.  Decent stuff going on.

Tantrum
Devirginized
Inverse
Some brutal raw old school thrash sounding stuff.  (thrashy music with growly vox)

Veiled
Omniscient Veil TAPE
Iron Bonehead
Classic old school sounding black metal.  lots of meedly meedly cold guitars with no real direction.

AmoK (Norway)
Necrospiritual Deathcore
Edged Circle Productions
Raw evil blackened death metal

TODESSTOSS
Hirngemeer
I, Voidhanger Records
Three really long tracks of experimental black metal/prog/weird.

Ruach Raah
Hate Fanaticism
War Arts Productions
Some more classic black metal.

Sivyj Yar
Burial Shrouds
Avantgarde Music
Melodic black metal from Russia.  A good “cold” black metal sound with some decent melodic stuff which keeps things interesting.

DECEASED
Cadaver Traditions (2CD)
Hells Headbangers
This is seemingly a compilation of like, every cover song this band has done. (53 tracks!)  Some sound pretty raw and live, but all decent from a wide variety of metal bands.

88 Mile Trip
Through The Thickest Haze
Label: Self-Release
Release Date: 17 September 2015
Genre: Stoner Rock/Metal | Country: Canada

New Stuff This Week…9/14/15

Atreyu
Long Live
Spinefarm
While this is modern metal, it’s got an edge and has roots in metal.  Cool vocal contrasts between clean and not/clean vox.  The singy stuff isn’t all whiney.

XXI
Inside Out
Tooth & Nail
A modern metalcore thing with melodic parts, singy stuff, some abrasive stuff too.  Some ok metal parts going on, but it’s Probably more for a Warped Tour crowd

Reflections
The Color Clear
eOne
Another modern metalcore thing… screamy and clean vox, melodic stuff… this one gets a little bit more proggy.

Ghost Ship Octavius
Ghost Ship Octavius
Knife Fight Media
This is melodic proggy metal.  Featuring the guitarist from Himsa/God Forbid/Warrel Dane and Van Williams formerly of Nevermore.  Great vocalist with a bit of a power metal feel, but more of a heavier sound.  Good stuff!

Stratovarious
Eternal
earMUSIC
One of the original power metal bands that kept things all “power” and cheesy, but still heavy enough to be interesting to the concerning metal head.  They are good at what they do and keeping it up with this release.

Metal Allegiance
Metal Allegiance
Nuclear Blast Entertainment
An all-star “band” made up of a who’s who in metal championed by Mike Portnoy, Alex Skolnick and David Ellefson.  Each song/vocalist sort of takes on that singer’s original band’s style and feel while still being new and modern and all that.  Good stuff.

Bring Me The Horizon
That’s The Spirit
Columbia Records
This is that moderm “mall core” type stuff.  Not really for the Mosh Pit.

TesseracT
Polaris
Kscope
These guys have always had a pretty good proggy hard rock yet slightyly djenty sound and they continue with it here.

WINDHAND
Grief’s Infernal Flower
Relapse Records
Sludgey doom metal with a stoner metal feel… so not all 100% a depressing snoozer.

CHRISTIAN MISTRESS
To Your Death
Relapse Records
Classic throwback hard rockin’ metal with female vox. It’s pretty catchy and has a great groove, but might be just too light for the ‘pit.

MOVIMENTO D’AVANGUARDIA ERMETICO
Torri del Silenzio
Avantgarde Music
I guess this is just your run of the mill classic black metal.  nothing bad about it, nothing groundbreaking (aside that they’re Italian!)  So there ya go.

The Black Dahlia Murder
Abysmal
Metal Blade Records
These guy have been around for a while… Techy death metal and still going strong.  Just extreme brutal stuff with a pissed off sound which makes you want to break things.

Harlott
Proliferation
Metal Blade Records
A very Slayer-like modern yet classic thrash sounding thing.

In Twilight’s Embrace
The Grim Muse
Label: Arachnophobia Records
This is some Polish melodic death, but moreso in the melodic deathy black metal.  We’re getting into some prog metal stuff in here too.  This is brutal yet has some melodic stuff and technical stuff as well.

WHEN BITTER SPRING SLEEPS
SPIRIT IN FLAMES
PAGAN FLAMES PRODUCTIONS
Doomy black metal with a bit of pagan feel vocally.  The music has a doomy black metal feel, but the vocals are more like a gothy clean sung style.  Production is a little mushy.

Funeral Throne
Threshold
Blut & Eisen Productions
For a little bit, this got to be a down tempo or old school black metal thing, but then it kicked in and got brutal and still black metally too.  So overall, you got some melodic brutal black metal.

Pneuma Hagion
Trinity I TAPE
Nuclear War Now! Productions
A dark sludgey death metal.  we got three quick tracks here, so not much to go on, but I think I hit it right it with the dark sludgey death metal label.

The Hudson Horror
Nemesis
Label: Self-Released
Brutal edged melodic death metal

Evilheart
Quinquaginta (Re-Release Sept 15, 2015)
Test Your Metal Records
This is some brutal thrashy-death metal.  Growly vox, yet riffy heavy thrashy music with a brutal edge to it.

Ares Kingdom
The Unburiable Dead LP/CD
Nuclear War Now! Productions
18 September 2015

Cropsy Maniac / Burial Ground / Grave Wax / Severed Limbs
Four Paths To Horror Split CD
Horror Pain Gore Death
All four of these bands put out some quality classic brutal death metal. I’m so used to these split EP’s being like 1 or 2 songs per band.  This one has 4 tracks per band.  good stuff.

Grift
Syner
Nordvis Produktion
Doomy atmospheric black metal.

King Heavy
King Heavy
Cruz Del Sur Music
A bit goth, a bit stoner metal, a bit classic metal, some thrash, lots of going on here…. but the vocals tend to define it and it’s a bit too “volbeat” for me.

Magister Templi
Into Duat
Cruz Del Sur Music
To me, this is a proggy heavy doom sound.  Off the top of my head, this has a stoner metal sound, yet some proggy/classic (Sabbath type) metal.  Pretty cool stuff.

Skepticism
Ordeal
Svart Records
Doomy post-metal.  A bit gothy, but yawn.

ONE MACHINE
The Final Cull
Scarlet Records
A melodic standard metal thing.  A bit proggy, a bit power and your meat and potatoes euro-metal.  Decent stuff.

Moon (Australia)
Render of the Veils
Moribund
Atmospheric doomy black metal.  meh.

Atila
V
Signal Rex
Doomy post “something”  I can’t say that it’s metal.

TSAR BOMB
EXTERMINANS IX:XI
CIMMERIAN SHADE RECORDINGS
Brutal brutality of brutalness.  So yeah, blackened death metal… great brutal stuff. BRUTAL!

Soulthern
Rock You ‘Till Die (Demo)
Label: Self-released
Classic southern stoner metal (just 3 demo-sounding tracks)

Eternal Voyager
The Battle for Eternity
Self Released
An epic prog/power metal thing with yeah, a bit of an edge, but maybe a pinch of a folk thing too.

W.A.S.P.
Radio Single “Scream”
Napalm Records
The last WASP track was just ok.  This one is maybe a bit better.  A little heavier, and still pretty cool.

SKINDRED
Radio Single “Under Attack”
Napalm Records
always one of the orignal “rap” metal/Nu metal type bands but with a metal reggae thing going on too!
